Question ? RA or OA | Arthritis Information

Just went to RA doctor. New one. He was talking like RA is mainly in Hands, Feet, Knees and Elbow,.  I have been having more problems with my Hips and Shoulders when he refered to OA then he looked at my X-Ray and just said I see you have a problem in your right shoulder but didn't say much else about it. He gave me cort. shot in hip. and upped my mtx.  He talked like the mtx will not help the hip and shoulder problem as much as exercise is suppose to do.

Just wanted to know if this is what you experience??

Thanks

CJames

it is possible to have both diseases at the same time.  The damage of OA looks different than RA does on x'ray.  The great joints such as hip and shouder do normally respond well to PT.  Especially the hip where so much of the pain comes from the soft tissues.  Stronger muscles will add much stability to the joints.

It is not only possible to have both RA and OA but if you have had RA long enough to show eroisions on xray most likely you will have some OA showing in the same or other joints - even if you are young and have not had a lot of injuries. I had OA showing in hip x-rays by age 20, and in my spine by age 25, even though I had not yet been dx with RA at age 20.

You know the song

'You can't have one without the other'  seems to be true.

I have always found pt to help my joints eventually, kind of a slow process, but so much easier than surgery.

TTTDid he say why the mtx wouldn't help the hip????  Hugs and good vibes.
