Every morning but more this day, I am having a time opening my jaw to eat.

I work it around and manage but it feels as though it does not want to open on the right side and like it would lock up. It's past morning this time.

Anybody else have this?

~KewaneeSometimes when I start to eat something  I get a terrible pain in my jaw, it lasts only for a minute and then it is allright, other times my jaw feels like it is locked and just is not right.

Hello

I have it too from time to time. When I eat, after a few chews, if I don't stop and rest it becomes very painful. There is a condition called claudication when the muscles get deprived of oxygen when they work as the blood vessels become blocked. This can be caused by spasms in the blood vessel walls, inflammation of the walls or blocked by clots/cholesterol deposits. Probably in our cases it is inflammation due to the disease process. There is one theory I have read is that the underlying cause of PMR is the auto-immune vasculitis that affects the muscles.  This seems to tie in with the GCA being an extension of the vasculitis.

I had vasculitis and phlebitis diagnosed years before the PMR was diagnosed but with RA and neurological symptoms as well everything seems to be happening at once.

Hoping you are having a better day today.

P.S. My last bad jaw episode was last Sunday. I hadn't sung for two weeks as my chest infection was bad but I couldn't sing for more than about 30 seconds without having an incredible pain in the left side of my jaw. Once I had stopped, it calmed down. Yet another of my favourite occupations hampered by this dratted disease.....grrrrrrr!

I'm so so so sorry this has affected your singing.
I know how it hurts. I used to love to sing but the Sjogrens Syndrome took that out.

Now I hate the sound of myself but it hurts because singing is such a way of pouring out your heart and expressing yourself. Best musical instrument, the true God made.

Wow Vasculitis and do you have a peripheral neuropathy with that? I noted the neuro. symptoms.

You just didn't need anything else did you?

~KewaneeWell all, Nurse from Rheumy's office called and said they are dropping me to 10mg from 15mg. as my blood work is good.

Said if my jaw continues to bother me, see a Dentist.

I wonder if 10mg. means I won't get the round face anymore or weight gain?

Funny thing is, last night my right side of my head started to hurt a bit again. Oh well.
~KewaneeI noticed a slight change in the puffy face at 10 mg., but it will take a while so do not get discouraged
I am having a terrible time with the pain, right now my hips and legs are screaming with pain , pinching burning pain. i had to tale a darvocet. having a problem standing and walking.  went for a few groceries and cried all the way home...oh my gosh what a moaner i am i am so miserable Georgiana,
I'm thinking you really need some help. So you are on 10mg now? The darvocet did not work for me or my husband as well as Vicoden, and no stomach problems.

Is there something else you could be taking for the inflammation with what you are already on?

I'm so sorry you are hurting so bad.

I'm afraid of coming down in a way because normal blood work or not, I know it's there.

I was just reading that 85% will usually show up an ESR so that leaves a few who won't but still have PMR or GCR.

The CRP helps alot I guess but it is flexible.

Well all I can do is see what happens and then complain if it's back.

If you don't get a Rhuemy who diagnose clinically, one may be in trouble getting help.

I hope you can get more help with this.

Hi girls

How quickly are you reducing? If you have been on 15mg for a while (like I have) then you have to come down gradually as you can get all sorts of problems. Four years ago I came down from 40mg to 20mg over about 3 months then the last 20mg took longer -about 6 months at on average 1mg a week.  This time I can't get below 15mg without the awful pain. I came down too quickly to 7.5mg (2.5mg per week) and got all sorts of withdrawal symptoms including clonic spasms in my legs. Hopefully my (new) rheumy will try something else (seeing him on Tuesday).

Hope you are having a better day today.

Judi,
I'm a little concerned about the drop to ten milligrams.
My I do get very painful leg spasms and cramps, but then I think I did before.

My ankles give out lately, I wonder about that being connected.

Do let us know about your new Rheumy. I hope you get more help from this one.

Today I just notice more tired and honestly being some depressed and my jaw are the worse things.

I'm aware of the area's of pain, shoulder tops and head but not so bad I can't deal.
