does anyone else have RA in these joints.  I have pain in these joints which is definitely not OA.  Does anyone else have this? I have swollen joints and there too and the rheumatologist told me it's OA because RA doesn't like those joints. I dunno...didn't have it before RA and the joints get red and hurt when everything else gets red and hurts.I agree, there is no way it's OA it must be RA and it's sore

I have red swollen joints next to my nail on my right hand. That is where my ra started. I also noticed it on my left hand a few weeks ago. I currently am not taking humira or any biologic because I had surgery and have to heal. I had four shots and believed it was helping me with my energy level and pain. Since I had to quit the humira, the ra has went nuts. Can't wait to take my shots again!

I have it there too. Index and middle finger most distal (close to finger nail joint). When these joints 1st flare the onset was sudden (over a 45 minute lunch) and extreme. I ran back to work and stuck my index finger in a cup of ice.

I happened to have a rhuemy appt 5 days later. Finger was still bright red and hot as a pistal. Rhuemy took one look at it and said OA. I said 'huh!' If anything was inflammatory arthritis that was it - it it gave off heat like a mini furnace.

But over time say 6 months as it cooled off, it grew boney lumps kinda like spurs. I was 42 years old ... that finger had not been sport injured. I don't do heavy labor. I did NOT wear it out. But its knobby appearance is just like what one sees of an 80 year laborers finger. somehow my RA has made OA happen.

Every joint that EXSISTS in my hands have RA. LoL There is just nothing else it COULD be. My hands are crazy. Those joints - the ones closest to the nail - are the first ones that are becoming deformed on me. I'm not sure why, but that's the way it is. I've always been baffled by docs who say you don't have RA in them because "ra doesn't like those joints" That's honestly one of the most ignorant statments I've ever heard. Who says that?!? LoL

I have PA with the RA and my fingers give me a fit every once in a while, but mine is the PA - guess this really doesn't answer your question (sorry).  I can't figure why they think RA wouldn't like finger joints after all they are pretty darn fond of the rest of them.

I know, right?

My mom's rd told her "RA doesn't do thumbs."  Mine does thumbs and it does them damn well.

I agree with those who said, RA likes all the joints! I have red, swollen joints in both hands. "RA doesn't do thumbs" Hahahah I love it. But I hate it!

Scout and 2mainy - had to laugh at your comments - yes, OA sure likes my joints at top of fingers and thumbs  :(

Whatever type of arthritis it is, it hurrrrts
