Here are the stats i was given at the summit.  If you guys want individual state stats pm me and i'll give them too you also.

46 MILLION people with doctor diagnosed arthritis.  They are predicting in 2030 there will be 67 MILLION doctor diagnosed people with arthritis.

300,000 children with arthritis.  That was only as of reports from 1988!! No study as been done since then to see how many children are currently living with arthritis.

Arthritis has been the leading cause of disability since 1998 but only gets 0,000 per state compared to the Million per state diabetes gets per state.

Arthritis costs our country 8 BILLION annually; billion in direct medical costs.

50% of Americans with rheumatoid arthritis are forced to stop working w/in 10 years of diagnosis.

There are only 13 states with pediatric rheumatolgists.

Guys we have to write our congressmen/women and our reps and emphisize the urgency in needing help!!

I hate the fact that I have to pay so much for my drugs.

Yes the english have the NHS. BUt I have 3/4 items on each prescription and they charge a rate for each item.

AAAAAAAAAARGH. I will be such a poor student come September.

Kelsey, just tell us what state has the highest and which state has the lowest stats.  I just knew that they were not doing enough for this disease.
As far as diabetes is concerned, there are a lot of celebrities with the disease and they are always on TV talking about the disease itself or the drugs for it.
This is very discouraging isn't it?  Thanks so much for going to the summit and also for this info.

Putting the highest and lowest states is kind of misleading since for example California has the highest number but its a huge state

This is just mind boggling - I knew we weren't getting much notice but WOW!!!!  I am so glad you got to go and thanks for the information.  I can't believe the shortage of pediatric rheumys - I mean that is just scary!!!  Hugs and good vibes.

I found an interesting site with some good arthritis statistics. http://www.aidmyarthritis.com/sonic_relief/index.php

Hey Pondie,

Do you have a prepayment certificate, that might save you some money

If you don't have one, let me know and I'll find a link for you!

Yes it is scary.  Part of the Bill they are trying to pass includes loan forgivness if they go into pediatric rheumatology.

Did you learn anything else at the meeting? Were you able to speak? Did Rando make it there? Tell us more please.

Yes, please tell us more.  Did you speak?  Do you recommend it for next year?  What else did you learn?  Don't hold out on us....tell us everything

Kelsey's quote: Putting the highest and lowest states is kind of misleading since for example California has the highest number but its a huge state.

How about per capita Kelseysmom?
These statistics are sad and makes me feel ignored. I will write to my state
senator and hopefully at least get the thought moving. Everyday, I meet
someone with an auto immune disease and it really deserves more attention.

I tried to send you an PM to ask for ALL the info you have from the summit - but the thing says your folder is full.  Can you try a little experiment for me - can you find my email in the profiles and send it to me?  I have changed my profile twice now to give my email address out and I want to see if that works now!  I'm looking for ALL the summit info and was wondering if there was any discussion on infectious theory at all there.  I'm betting not - but I thought I'd ask to be sure.  I also tried to send you my fax number if that would be easier - but do not want to post it in the forum.  One of our last long discussions on this board got posted on the web and I don't want that to happen again.

Pip

sorry about that Pip i cleared out some of my inbox now lol....Do you want me to send you individual state info also?
