Rash on Face | Arthritis Information

Hello,

I have a tentative diagnosis of RA. However, I recently developed a
facial rash (not the classis lupus butterfly rash). This rash was very
red, and peeled terribly. It also burned. An antibiotic cream (no
steriods in it) helped to clear the rash.

At first, we thought it was the Plaquenil possibly causing the rash. So
I discontinued it for a time and then re-started it. No rash has
returned, so now it appears this rash is another symptom of my
disease

My question is: can RA produce rashes?? I do know that Lupus can
produce non-malar rashes; so I'm starting to wonder if I have Lupus
or Lupus and RA overlap.

Sorry for the long post. Can anyone help me??   Thanks and have a
good day!

Before I got my DX I had the exact same thing on my left arm! Sounds Identical... No one ever found out what it was.... It was alomst gone by the time I saw a rheumy, It did scar, but not terribly. I have wondered what it was ever since. It was wierd!...Sorry I could not point towards an ID for it for you.....Thanks for the reply, Jen!! I have been kind of agonizing over this! I
have been wondering of it couldn't have been just another symptom
of RA inflammation. Only this time on the skin?

Mine has scarred a bit, too. On the face, which is just lovely.....

I hope mine stays away, too. But, like you, I'm very vigilant now
looking for a return. I don't know which to wish for: Lupus or RA????
What a choice.

Yeah ,I know! I was supposed to get the DX of Lupus then got the official RA nod... I am betting the rash had everything to do RA, I was Having alot of mild joint aches at the time, but not too bad. I have never seen anything Like that rash...It wasn't huge, but it was notably strange.... It burned and was very odd. I wish I could help more......I get rashes too. But my rashes clear with steroid creams. The skin is just another organ and it can get inflamed too.

I get rashes too. I put cortizone creme on it cuz it itches all the time. Just another lovely RA thing. I've seen it discussed before on the board here. It's common. Don't freak.

Thank you! I'll try not to freak out! I love having experienced people
to toss worries to -- it eases my mind so much.

I had kind of wondered the same thing -- i.e. that the skin was just
another organ to get inflamed.

Thanks again!

The first time I tried plaquenil I got a rash (not on my face though).  I stopped taking plaquenil for a bit.  Then it was added again and no rash after that.
