First sign of joint pain | Arthritis Information

Well, I think my RA is worsening. I rammed my right middle finger into
something yesterday. It wasn't anything that would have bothered me a year
ago. But I thought I had stubbed a toe, the pain was so bad. It brought
tears to my eyes. This finger is swollen and painful today. This really bums
me out. I just don't have the strength in my hands that I used to but maybe
that is all in my head, I don't know. Any suggestions for this? Ice or heat? It
makes me wonder if the plaquinil is not as effective but I have only been on
it for 6 months. I'm tired of this. I'm just coming off three 12 hour night
shifts so I"m kind of in that negative mode right now. Thanks for listening :)Hey,

I'm no expert, but I think plaquenil is supposed to show whether it's
going to work within six months. Maybe someone with more
experience could verify this??

It may be a bit too late for ice; but it still may take a bit of the
swelling down. Heat should at least bring temporary relief.

Are you sure you haven't broken it?????????

I'm so sorry you're having such a rough go of it. This disease
certainly tries our endurance, doesn't it??   I admire you being able to
work the hours you do!!

Lorster---sorry about your increased pain. With any injury you should use ice for the first 48 hrs.  It will limit swelling and help with the pain. Heat thereafter--it increases blood flow to the region and will often worsen edema. initially.Hope it feels better.  Lou

I am sorry lorster

Hope tomorrow finds your finger in better shape Ice is good for swelling. Heat is bad for swelling, but nice for stiffness or
painful joints.
