has anyone experienced food aversions because of medication/R.A.?  the past week my stomach has turned when i tried to eat  meat (lamb, chicken, salmon,  white fish) and it looks like I will have to eat mainly veggies.
i take 15mg mtx weekly.   could it be the illness or the med causing the aversion.   I really do feel very very sick if i bite into meat.

I haven't had that problem but if the meat is making you sick, do make sure you are getting plenty of protein from other sources such as eggs, beans, legumes, nuts etc.  Be careflu not to malnourish yourself.

I've been eating out of control ever since I got onto prednisone! Kid's dry cereal are my current munchies! Coco-puffs, Cookie crunch, cheerios, you name it I sit and eat it!! Trying to get under control.....! I like protein, so meat, chic. all appeals to me. Cottage cheese, eggs & soy milk could be a help.  I drink soy milk all the time, choc. is my favorite. When we are not feeling so good we probably think more about food than usual.  Good luck with this aversion.

Yes. The answer is yes... I really don't feel like eating at all. I am working really hard at it, as everything kinda tastes like it has mint thrown in there for no reason. Alot of mint, It's overwhelming. I guess I am combatting that with trying to find things that DO taste good right now... So far, since this started at about 4 AM yesterday, It's iced cream.. I'm Still working on finding what I can tolerate. New med days? I could do without..

I have had food aversions due to drugs. Especially when I first start a drug, food will taste off. I'll start thinking the food is spoiled - and start asking family members 'does the milk, meat, or whatever smell and taste ok to you?'. It usually fades as my body adjusts to the drug.

Happens to cancer patients on chemo all the time.

This is funny -- I was just discussing this on another board!!

I have had a general lack of appetite since before my RA was
diagnosed. I think sometimes it's just part of the disease,
sometimes it's due to meds. and sometimes it's a combination of
both.

I think as we feel better, our appetites will return!

Cheers!

I have had this side effect before with another med or two in my life. So it's not entirely unexpected. Just not from a DMARD.  It's definitely not the worst side effect to deal with should it do good.

I stopped smoking a couple of months before I started getting the pains and tiredness that finally had me dxd with RA. I thought my pickiness with some foods was a result of having clean tastebuds and a sense of smell again. I've been vegetarian all my adult life so meat didn't come into it, but...I spent a whole summer not enjoying salad veg - I'd previously looked forward to lots of salads so it was a bit of a blow that summer.

BTW, Pin, it's nice and sunny in London
