rheumatologist in the SF bay area? | Arthritis Information

we recently moved to the SF bay area (live in marin, work in san francisco-mission bay).  I am trying to find a PCP and rheumatologist who you would recommend and who is taking new patients.  we have  PPO health insurance (so no one at kaiser, ok but not perferable if someone who does not take any insurance).  I have to wait about 1-4 months to see a rheumatologist fellow at the UCSF clinic run by Fye.
I woudl appreciate being see a lot sooner.  I have had symptoms for about 6 weeks (a lot of pain and stiffness in the mornings, mostly my ankles).  It started with bilateral pain and is now more predominant in the left ankle, both ankles, or left ankle+ right hand and wrist.   On some days I can hardly stand up or even walk for a few hours, but the past few days I have had very little pain.  Are there common triggers (the past few days have been warmer and drier, but otherwise i can't think of any reason why the symtpoms come and go). i am new to this forum and to the bay area.  any help is appreciated.
thanks!
Hey lomv! There may be triggers to your RA but unfortunatly everyone has a different experience with this disease so the only way to find out what they are is by trial an error. Some people find nightshades aggravate, others find gluten is a culprit, or red meat. I read a post where a person figured out the dye in orange cheddar cheese was what made him flare (he can eat white cheddar). Or you may have no food sensitivities at all but be sensitive to enviromentla factors. Or you may never know. Sleeping a lot may help, especially during early onset. Sorry I can't be more help.
Good luck in your search for a good SF rheumatologist.
Hey!  I checked out the Arthritis Foundation website and i found a list of rheumatologists in CA.  There are about a dozen or so in the san fransisco area, though since im not familiar with the area the towns mean nothing to me

Hi Lomv,

I live in San Francisco and can recommend 2 very good RD's.  I have seen them both.  They are Dr. David Curtis and Dr. Claire Targoff.  I am currently seeing Dr. Curtis, only because he has a smaller office and is clser to where I live.  But the are both good and highly recommended.  I got an appt with dr. curtis for the end of next week.  targoff's next new patient appt was in june.  Thanks again for the rec.  I'lllet you knwo how it goes for me. I'm so glad I will see someone soon.
