Does anyone have teethmarks around their tongue - like it's scalloped at the edges - it's worse in the morning I think it is because my tongue is a bit swollen - I have red stuff about it in Chinese medicine and other nutritional stuff says it could be to do with the spleen etc but I don't know what to do about it - Uggg I feel rubbish today my whole body is shivering with inflammation.  Yes I get it too. I think my tongue my swell during sleep - it looks better after an hour maybe 2 of being up right.YES!  That's what happens to mine too!  What IS with this?  I'd LOVE to get to the bottom of it.

Hi flint, it could be caused from low iron levels, my father used to get it and that was an iron deficiency.

ooh that's interesting - I'll get them checked - if I could get to the bottom of it it would be great. Yes this has been happening for a long time. I have seen a dentist and what is causing it for me is teeth clenching and grinding when I am sleeping. I has a bite guard made and it has helped with that and also neck and jaw pain i was having. Good luchThat was my first sign of RA....a swollen tongue!  And now, I can tell how my day will be based on how swollen it is.  The days it is very scalloped, for lack of a better word, the worse I am.  I'm swollen all over and in misery....I did look on the net and found a pic. of one that looked like mine so I knew I wasn't some freak, lol.[QUOTE=bellagirl]Yes this has been happening for a long time. I had the same situation happen to me. Has anyone else here have the same problem? My dentist saw holes in my mouth and he said I was grinding my teeth. I was grinding my teeth because of stress and anxiety in my life. My dentist wanted to create a custom mouth guard for me, but it was too much money. I did some research online and found affordable/high quality mouth guards from TotalGard.com on google. I now have a night guard that has eliminated my teeth grinding and my pain is gone. I hope you find the solution to your problem and find peace withing yourself!

this is one slick spammer mammer jammer!!!

Babs, I have a guard like this after suffering from the same thing in the last year, its worked a treat. Maybe a good idea that this topic was bumped up . Its better than a lot of the topics that have been bumpedI do too. I think its because of Sjorgren's  your nasal passages dry out, so you mouth breathe while you sleep which in turn drys and swells the tongue..

It's particularly nasty and leads to really foul bad breath.

I sleep with a small amount of Biotene mouthwash beside my bed and will occasionally during the night wake and just touch my tongue to it.. just enough to moisten.
Biotene is excellent for this Kathy.Huh? I am not a spammer? I was just telling you my experience..

Please do not mistaken me as a 'spammer'.
forget it.

[QUOTE=babs10] Kathy~They make a dry mouth spray that I keep beside my bed. You might look for that instead of doing the mouthwash thing in the middle of the night. I think the name of it is oasis? Maybe something different but you'll find it in the drug store near that dry mouth mouthwash. Try it; it's very useful for those middle of the night problems which were driving me crazy!

I just bought some biotene gum. I'd never seen that before so I had to get it just to try. Didn't really need to chew a piece just now; but was anxious to try it. The pieces are really tiny. Can't tell that it's much different than any sugerless gum. I'll give it another try when my mouth is really dry and see if it impresses me. So far; I wouldn't recommend wasting your money on it. I paid .79 for a 16 piece pack. Not too bad if it's found to be worth it....but so far the jury is still out.
My tongue has always had indentations where it butts up against my teeth. It is definitely more pronounced in the morning - I think this is the oral equivalent of pillow lines on your face and body. I don't go around checking out people's tongues, so I can't speak for anyone else. [QUOTE=JasmineRain]My tongue has always had indentations where it butts up against my teeth. Speaking for myself as well, I find JR's assessment to be spot on.
