Hi all, are there specialist who just treat babies/young people?

A licensed Pediatrician would be able to refer or help you, also several internits woudl be able to direct you in the right direction.

jode

I live in a strange place tht only has 2 RA--period!, so I guess people with children wouldn't have a special doctor, here! It does seem that babies/young people need special care. Unterstanding, help for their parents. etc.?We have a large children's hospital in our state.  I would look into that - they have amazing specialists who are devoting their life to children.According to an article in the current Arthritis Today there are 219 pediatric rheumatologists in the US.  Most of those are located in Urban areas with major children's hospitals located in them

Pediatric Rheumatology is a speciality.  Many can only be found at the larger research hospitals.  My Rheumy is also certified as a Peds. Rheumy so they are out there.

He said that many rheumatologists won't touch kids so that is why he got the additional endorsement.

Of course there is ;-)

Pediatric Rheumatology, as rocckyd said, is exactly it. They are few and far between. With my dad being in the military, they HAVE to take into consideration your families medical needs, before they ship you off to a new base. Lemmie tell ya, 90% of the Air Force bases in exsistance we could have NEVER lived at, because there wasn't a PRA within 50 miles. Everywhere that we did live, the drive was about an hour to see my doc. There should be more of them!!

219 as buckeye found, is just....NONE compared to how many kids actually *have* JRA. I mean........come on.........219..as of what, 2005 maybe? So lets see, back when I was a wee one, lets say in 89, do you think there were even that many??? And with as many places I've lived....Hmmmmm I may have seen everyone one of them in practice between 85 and 95........LOL
