falling down | Arthritis Information

Hey Guys, Looking for a reason that would cause this- This morning I got up out of bed and my legs just gave way and I fell down. I pulled myself up and the same thing happened three times, on the fourth try I could stand...???????? It was scary and nothing like this has happened to me before. My legs have felt fine all day. I'm hoping it never happens again. Anyone else ever have this happen? Any thoughts.

Thanks

Oh dear, I haven't had that but sometimes I wonder if my knees are going to 'work'. They feel weak and funny. I'm sorry you had this and hope you don't have it again! Good thing you didn't hit anything when you fell.....Ginni it could be LOTS of things. Maybe you slept funny, and you circulation was decreased in your legs. Maybe your knees locked up? Maybe you have RLS and so even though you slept, your legs did not rest! Maybe your legs pitted a small resistance force against you and that was just the start of their long and perilous revolution against the main trunk of your body........heeehee.......

If it happens again, mention it to the doc. (But keep your voice down, your legs might be listening....)
I've had something similar to that.  I've gotten up from a chair before and my legs would simply not work.  No pain, they just wouldn't work.  I could move them but not to the point where I could stand up.  After sitting back down and wondering if I would ever walk again, my legs returned to normal (or at least back to where I was before I sat down.)  I'm thinking my problem could be a neuro thing but it has happened only 3 times in  my life.  So infrequently that I have never thought to tell my doc about it or ask as to why this might be happening.  You know, I didn't think about it before but - I get that with my hands and fingers. I've always chalked it up to the RA - like a mystery annoying symptom. I suppose it could happen anywhere on the body though, right? Okay, come to think about, fingers and hands have stopped working also.  But once again, it happens so infrequently that I never give it much thought.  I guess when it happens, like Katie, I just blame it on the RA!My legs just stop working sometimes. Happened the other day when I was walking down my stairs. OOPS.

Hands and fingers do it too. I'll randomlly drop glasses and stuff. I only drink out of plastic if I'm the one carrying it around the house now.

Thank heavens for unbreakable dishes! (although, I have chipped  few. hahaha)

Thanks for your input. Bingethinker  and MsMidge its a relief to know, I'm not the only one this has happened to, and because its been so infrequent with you, maybe mine will be the same or maybe never occur again. I often wake with numb hands, but they feel asleep. Thats been going on forever. Katie I do think I'll keep my voice down...lol... never know which limb might be paying attention.

Thanks so much, Ginni

Last time that happened to me, the DR's nurse told me it was a side-effect of  the prednisone. Might be worth a phone call if you are on pred.

Prednisone!! OH GOSH! My knees and legs have been feeling really funny lately, and I'm on 15mgs of the stuff.  I'll call tomorrow, but I can't get off of it until the MTX & Remicade work?///now what??? We were visiting a man Saturday, and he came into his front room, turned around his chair and fell right on his knees? (he's fallen a number of times and I do wonder what these meds do (he isn't on RA).
