Hot tub? | Arthritis Information

My sweetie and I are going to his house in the mountains this week.  I have been avoiding his hot tub as I have been so exhausted and hot tubs always make me tired even though I love them.  Do any of you use a hot tub or jacuzzi for pain relief?  Does it have any long term effects?  I worry some about the hot water because cool compresses seem to bring me relief.  Thanks you guys.

I love going to the hot tub at my mom's beach house. It is so relaxing and makes my body feel GREAT! I also spend a lot of time taking hot baths at home. I drink a LOT of water....especially when I'm using the hot tub. You don't want to get dehydrated, which can definately make you feel tired! Maybe use the hot tub before an afternoon siesta, or before turning in for the night. Change your mental focus...rather than the hot tub making you feel tired, it is just relaxing you. Have fun! Love, juliah

p.s...I haven't noticed any long-term relief from the hot tub, but I still enjoy it when I can!

Juliah6738530.413587963I love hot tubs but also notice the tired feeling.  I get the same feeling in the pool too though no matter how warm it is.  I find it relaxing though so I don't mind the tired feeling as well.
There's some that say using heat on an inflammed joint doesn't help and that you should use cool compresses or ice it. But for me, I prefer heat.  No matter how warm and swelly (dontcha love that word)  I am I want heat.
It all boils down to what works for you.  Try it and if you don't like it, then don't do it.

Hi..

My Hubby says its good for immediate relief.  He can't take it too long though.  Sometimes he just sits on the edge and doesn't totally submerge.  Also, we purchased ours tax free (note from doctor) for anyone buying one.  We are also looking into getting a handicap sticker.  Something we had not thought of until a friend mentioned it.

Thanks you guys.  I am going to give it a try this week.  I was avoiding it before my dx because I wasn't understanding why I was so tired and other ra symptoms.  Now that I am on disability for a short time, might as well enjoy it.  It is good for the circulation, what I do is after the hot tub I go and jump into the nice cold pool, that closses you pores and helps to keep you from being too sl;eepy. As stated before drinks lots of fluids, watch the alcohol it will help dehydrate you faster.  memeThanks Meme.  I had to quit drinking because of mtx so that won't be a problem.
