Newbie and symptom concerns | Arthritis Information

Hi everyone!

I'm a newbie here and have some symptoms that concern me - could be
rheumatiod. Let me preface by saying that I'm only 31 and have two
small children under the age of 5. I also suffer from an autoimmune
disease - vitiligo - which is what made me think perhaps my symptoms
were worth looking at by people who have this disease. Vitiligo, if you
are curious, is the loss of pigment in your skin. I've had it since I was 13
and am nearly 70% depigmented (incuding hair).

I have woken up every morning for the past 3 weeks unable to make a fist
with my left hand. My joints in my fingers are so stiff that it takes about
15-20 mins. before I have normal, full use of that hand. My right hand
has a tender spot on the palm of my hand just under my thumb. no idea
if the two are connected, but just putting it out there. The pain in that
hand does not go away, where the stiffness does eventually subside. It
even happens if I get a nap in the afternoon...i guess just inactivity.

If anyone else has experienced this, please, I would love to hear your
story! Thank you in advance

Hi Christina,

My niece has vitiligo also. Hers started on her face when she was about 15 and is no fun. Not a serious condition, from what I understand, but not nice for teen girls to death with.

Your symptoms sound like they could be RA, but I'd go to the doctor if I were you to get it checked out.

Get to the Doc to prevent any further damage no matter what it may be.

This is too funny! I posted a reply to one of your topids at the same time
you were posting one to mine!!

Gotta love it!

I am going to the doc tommorrow, I can ask him anything u want....

That's ok...you can mention what I've typed here if you want remember, but
if not, don't sweat it! Thanks for offering though, so sweet of you!Well, it sounds like it's happening in both hands, a sign of RA.  I'd definately talk to a rheumatologist.

I too have vitlligo and it sucks by itself.  My rheummy told me that you have a higher chance of having another one or even two autoimmune problems once you have one....mine is thyroid, and RA.

I hate our immune systems....

ASK THE RHEUMMY

Zeekman, I need to register with your doc - I don't even get the time to go through my own list with my doc never mind doing a collection on here thanks everyone for your advice! I love this board - you people are
awesome! Gramma2: sorry to hear that vit has imposed itself on you too. I
know it's not a life-threatening disorder, but it is still an AI disorder...and I
don't know how much you are depigmented, but I can't be out in the sun
anymore period.
