Prednisone is making me moody... | Arthritis Information

I noticed it with the Medrol Pack last month.  It worked like a MIRACLE by day 2, but by day 3 I was a raving lunatic... biting my kids' heads off, nastiness one minute, nice the next, etc...

Now it is starting already on 5mg.  Can I just stop taking it?  I've only taken two days worth of 1 pill each day.

Thanks,

Karen

I wouldn't stop taking it.  I'd take half a pill maybe for a few days, then a quarter of one for a few but not quit taking it.  I too have a nasty mood reaction to oral pred.  Injections don't bother me.
Sorry you are having this reaction.  Maybe there is something your doc can do to help.

Unfortunatly, it has a similar impact for me.  But, when I'm in a lot of pain (or covered head to toe in poison ivy), I guess it's worth it.

I'm having the mood swings too.  Been on 20 mg of Pred for 2 mths now and starting to ween off of it and onto Arava.  the Pred really helps the pain though but yes....I feel like Syble sometimes.

I was like that when I was on Prednisone. I just warned everybody that I might be moody for no reason other than the pred. It did make me feel better, but I'm glad I'm off of it now.

Mike

I'm always the same way. I dread that more than the slight weight gain.

My doctor in the past has prescribed a anti-depressant to just calm my nerves. Helps me sleep too. I forget what the name of it was....but it was something I just took as needed and not something I took long term for depression or anything.

"Raving Lunatic" is the perfect way to decribe it...and like Mike I'm quick to warn my family to steer clear of me at times. (AND THEY DO!!)

Ok, remember when I posted something similar to this, about being moody and mean? Well, I haven't been like that in a couple of months. Since MTX is out of my system I have not been as moody or hateful. I think MTX with pred made me moody.

I feel like I did when I was pregnant and on just pred...happy go lucky...I hardly get mean now...unless they just push my buttons....daughter and hubby. I have not really snapped anyones head off in a couple of months and I do not feel like I need to start an argument with hubby or stupid stuff now...lol.

I think MTX helped my moodiness along.

I don't call it "Witch (with a capital B) in a bottle" for nothing, zakatak.  Yes, pred can cause mood swings, sensitivity, etc etc.  But I do believe that you can learn how to pretty much control it.

Now, go hug those kids -- and I hope that tomorrow is a better day.

Hugs,

Janis

Zak......went thru the same Medrol pack about a month ago and same as you, day 2 felt CURED!  By day three, went downhill from there.  Then went on 5 mg Prednisone.  Only took it for a week but Rheumy took me totally off when I finished the INH (for TB exposure).  It causes Lupus like symptoms (the INH)  DR's will tell you that anti-depressants and prednisone do not mix.  Now that I'm totally off it, I feel so much better.  Hope your able to get off it as well and feel better!!!

The first time I took pred was in the form of two seemingly gigantic shots.  My rd did not warn me of the side effects and I woke up the next day crying and feeling suicidal.  Lucky for me my best friend is a gp doctor and she told me I was not crazy, that it was the steroids.

I cried for days.  This last flare I have had 5 shots at diferent times and then daily pills.  I was not as bad off as the first time, but was still weepy and I gained a huge amount of weight and did the "moon face" thing, YUCK! I am now off the pills and pray I do not have to go back on them.  My sympathies and prayers to all of you who are struggling on this medication.

Robin
