Newly Diagnosed with RA | Arthritis Information

Hello!  I just found this board.  I was diagnosed a month ago.  I, too, thought my pain was workout related.  I workout daily, anywhere from 30-60 minutes, so I assumed it was all related.  I ended up at the rheumy for something else, she found my symptoms interesting, tested me and bam! it was positive.  So I took mtx for one month, my liver tests came back elevated, so today I started sulfasalazine (sp?).

We lead a very active life.  I was freaked out at first.  I'm determined to keep going for as long as I can.  I get stiff at times, just spent a week with back neck/upper back pain.  But I still kept up my workouts, just modified them.  We're going skiing this weekend for 3 days.  Again, I will do what I can and rest in between.

Good for your for keeping up your workouts it is one of the best things you can do for yourself.  Just be careful about pushing obviously flaring jointsthanks.  I learned the hard way.  Before I was diagnosed, I especially worked out the joint in pain thinking it would help stretch the muscles (I thought it was muscle pain, not joint pain).  HA!  I do yoga daily in addition to my other stuff, but for example if my shoulders hurt (one of my common pain places) then I do only lower body, etc.  make sense?  so yes, thank you, I am trying to be careful.  so much to learn!

Welcome, hula. Glad to have you join us.

It's so good to hear you are able to keep up your exercise routine. Hopefully, with the biologics, you'll never have to stop!

Best of luck.

Gentle hugs,

Nini

Welcome! and good for you for having such a positive attitude. Keep  on moving....that's the best thing to do. Gentle, or as much as you can do without pain before and after. You'll figure it out. Good luck Not hurting anymore with super meds.I have also continued to workout throughout my life with RA. I have had it for 14 years. The hardest part is determining when the pain is OK to work through and when it is not. When in doubt-let it rest. I think some of the damage I have is due to not abiding by that rule.
