pred question, please... | Arthritis Information

Hello everyone...for those of you who remember me. I have had the undiagnosed fevers, daily. Also have had various dx's for muscle and joint aches, flu-ey symptoms etc.

My family dr prescribed a very low dose of prednisone (2.5 mg) to see if I would respond in any way to it. He wanted me to try it while waiting to see 2nd rheumy, but when I got into the rheumy so quickly I never filled. Now that another month has passed and no change I am considering the trial basis of pred now but here is my question....is it ok to take whilst you have a sinus infection and/or flu or virus? I am getting over something that has run through our house and want to make sure it is ok before I start. My doc is out of town for a few days.

Thanks so much to you all. Wish everyone well!! (sorry, no pun there!)

I am an advid pred user... also known as a pred junkie

I would wait until your sinus infection is gone before you attempt taking it. It can make the sinus infection worse or make it last longer, because pred does weaken your immune system.

I have never had to go off pred when I got a sinus infection because of Humira, I only had to go off of Humira. But since you have not took it for very long, like I have (months and years), I would say to wait to take it.

I hope you wait until your infection is gone before you take the pred.

Good Luck!
