What have you noticed about Prednisone's effects on your body??

Are you hungry? Have you gained weight?

How has it affected you?? I am back on the stuff after a long break.

i just started taking it. it makes me hyper. it took about three days to become effective, but then i felt like a million bucks! than the taper......... started feeling crummy, Now i am going back up to 10mg a day. I think it makes me short of breath, but maybe thats from the mtx?  i notice when i went down, my blood sugars went down as well. I have heard thats a side affect. I dont know the long term ramifications yet, as am new to this all. But i hope i dont have to be on it for long. I've been taking it for a year and a half and the main side effect was
severe mood swings. When I was one a high dose it made me crazy. I
haven't had any weight gain.Ditto for me on the mood swings. Mostly anxiety. It was a rough
go. But I was only on it for a very short time. I didnt have any weight gain on it till they increased me to 15 when i had to be off meds do to a "chronic sinus infection"  sucker lasted almost 4 months

At 15 I was hungry all the time! Ate about 10 boxes of Cocoa Puffs! and gained 10 lbs! , Trying to reduce to 2 then 1 a day. I felt very energized and 'sort of on a trip', it got me through some very bad pain. Now on MTX & Remicade. Hurts gone but still stiff in my hands/fingers.

Gena,  Since I have raised my pred, about 3 weeks ago, already gain 5 - 7 pounds.  I want ice cream every night.  I also find myself feeling insecure and sensitive wen I wasn't before.  Seems at 5 mg, no side effects but up from that, WAMO.    I can't wait to get back off but I like feeling better so much, afraid to wean yet.  I gained 30 pounds on pred. before.  I really really really don't want to gain that weight back.  I have been enjoying feeling thin again

I have no pain whatsoever.

Roxy, I know this is off topic a bunch, but have you tried Dreyer's Grand Light ice cream? I, too like ice cream at night, and the light is less calories and 1/2 the fat of regular.

I am not on prednisone. A two week trial by my rheumy didn't help and my sed rate and CRP actually went up a bit. That's just me though. It seems if there can possibly be an unusual reaction to something, it will happen to me.

Gena, I hope it helps you as much as it has so many people here.

Hugs to all,

Nini
