i am to take 10mg a day. should i take it all at once or 5 in the morning and 5 later?I take mine at the same time at bed time.  I find that if I take it at bedtime, I don't wake up as stiff and achy.  I've also tried 5 MG. at bedtime and 5 mg. in the morning.  Both ways seemed to worked pretty well for me.call your doctor and ask him what he wanted you to doI found 5 mg. in am and another 5 in the pm worked for me.  When I asked my doc he said try spliting it and see.  You may just have to try.  Just don't change your daily dose without asking your dr. first.

I am going to take 5 in the morning and 5 at lunch. if i take the second dose too late at night i cant sleep. But it sure is helping me! The 5 mg wasnt, so doc icreased it to 10mg perday. Is 10mg considered a high dose?

Morning for me - all at once.  10 mg is not very high. 10mg and below are the dosages that dr. say
should cause few side effects. I was on 90mg for a while and that was
not fun. I ended up with Thrush in my throat-ewww. I am back down to
5 now.

I cannot take it at bedtime. It makes me stay awake all night.

Becky I don't feel 10mg is a high dose.  I have been on 40mg before and tapered off of that.  This time around I started at 25mg and tapered to 5mg which is my maintenance dose.  I am glad that the pred is working for you and making you somewhat comfy.  I don't think it really matters when you take it as long as you do.  I have to take mine with food and in the morning or afternoon as it will give me some pretty nasty heartburn otherwise.  Before my mtx started to kick in I was in a great deal of misery.  Just experimenting, I tried spliting my 20 mg prednazone dose into 10 mg. every 12 hours.  This helped a lot.  However when I started to taper down my Doc asked me to stop this practice.  He said it was having the same effect on my adrenal glands as a higher dose.  I am now at 10 mg taken at breakfast.
I have found that in my case, eating yogurt with the live cultures have helped to avoid stomach problems.
The trouble sleeping disappeared after several weeks.  However I always want to eat!  When I mentioned this to the Doc he commented, " you can eat an elephant, right".  So I guess this is common.
I hear ya about wanting to eat.  And sometimes weird stuff too.  When I was on a higher dose (40mg) I wanted white rice with creamed corn mixed in it!!!  Ewwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!  Now that is an intresting combo. Sounds like a weird pregnancy craving!

I hope the pred works for you. It will be a love/hate relationship. Love
the decrease in pain, Hate the rice/creamed corn cravings!
