reaction to mtx | Arthritis Information

OMG you guys.  My skin is on fire and my face is all blotchy.  My skin is all tingling but like a painful tingling.  My rd is not back for two hours so I called my gp.  He told me to take four benadryl and go to er if I have shortness of breath.  He also told me he did not think I should be taking mtx with this kind of reaction.  The drama never stops

This worries me Rox~Call Brett or another friend to come out and stay with you. I took 1 benadryl last night and it knocked me out. No way I could drive to the hospital with 4 in my system.

Keep us updated girlfriend...I don't like the sounds of this.

The benedryl is working.  The tingling is going away and I am not red.  My rd nurse said not to take it next week and made an appt. for me next week.  Just when I was accepting taking mtx -they are going to change meds.  OMG  this disease is hard.  Brett has not been answering his phone, he lives in the mountains - 1.5 hours from me.  Now I am wondering if he is having second thoughts.  His previous wife was very ill and she died in bed next to him.  I don't think he can cope with another sick woman.

Take care and get a different med!

hope things work out for you Rox... you described kinda what my skin did when i took the sulfasalizine. I took it for like 2 days and it did this.. my skin felt prickly to the touch (on the inside) and i was RED!!! sounds like a reaction.... on the other hand. maybe you can get injections of MTX. I hadnt heard of them before this board, but people do say they react differently to injection than to oral drugs.

Hope you feel better!!!!

I can't take MTX anymore either so now I'm on Imuran. It does help me some, but I still need to take a biologic along with it. You know the saying, "you have too kiss a lot of frogs before you find a prince", well arthritis meds can be like that too. You have to keep trying until you find your prince.

We are still trying to clear up the rash it doesn't help where it is under the boobs and in the armpit.  I am on benedryl to keep from itching it.  The rd said he thinks it will be a couple more weeks before it is cleared.  He is concerned about pain coming back and the stiffness too.  meme
