why do they have to be soo expensive?! | Arthritis Information

I went to Freak-Mart yesterday to look for curtains to put up on the windows of living room at the house. I would need 4 panels. I wobbled my already aching and hurting self to the curtain department and got sticker shock

So, then I went to the fabric department right across from the curtain department and looked for a fabric that would work with the colors of the living room... I found one and it was .98 a yard! I would need about 3 yards to make one panel! I am thinking we are going to have to deal with the lookie lou's peering thru our windows as they drive pass the house

I wonder if I can get curtains cheaper off of eBay? Might need to go check it out.

joonie39169.4565972222I have often wondered why in the world curtains are so expensive too!! It makes no sence to me.  Everyone uses them so you would think the price would come down. I guess you just have to wait for them to come on sale.  I have had some luck believe it or not at Lowes Home Improvement stores.  They usually have closeout sales on curtains.  I have also bought some through Brylane Home collection.  I think you can find thier site on the internet.  They are usually inexpensive.  good luck in the quest for cheap curtains.  If you find any, let us know!!!!Ebay is great and some of the stuff is nearly new.I bought a lounge suite off there that was only 6 month old, the recliner was still in its plastic. The people were moving to australia , it only cost me £60.00 as it ended at 3.30am and i must have been the only one awake. The suite is really lovely

Oh, and don't forget to bargain - I always ask sweetly "Can you do any better on the price" and almost without fail I will get the item for less!  Spring is coming - time to hit the sales!!!

Hillhoney39169.4673611111Joonie try craigslist.  They might have something good on there

Yard Sales are an idea, it is the getting up in the morning to go to them that makes it a challenge

My Momma is always buying bed sheets and turning them into great curtains! Their a heck of a lot cheaper......and it wouldn't take much to make them work.

Yeah, my neighbor suggested that the other day. But I do not really sew good, I am right handed and well my right hand is the worse out of my hands. I might be able to enlist my older sister who loves to sew to sew me up some curtains.

Will look into all options. Not like we are moving up there anytime soon.

If you had a glue gun you could glue it too I guess. You might could even add some sort of trim to cover the area so you wouldn't notice it at all.

Be creative! It's your home.....just use things you like. It doesn't have to be perfect.

Yeah me and hubby thought about the making the curtains, and using that iron tape as hubby would probably be able to do that, as I am not allowed to use an iron since it seems like everytime I use one I burn myself

I am having quite the list of things I am not allowed to use anymore without supervision

Joonie, like Lovie suggested, sheets would be great! The sticky stuff is called "stitch witchery" and there are other brands too, but the stuff is so easy to use. I've made many, many things using this stuff. Another one is "Heat and Bond" and you can buy it in rolls and just cut out the strips or what ever that you need.

Dang it. If I was there I'd do it for you!

Look for a sale on fabric. Curtains are easy to make as long as you don't pick a plaid or some pattern that you have to match up a lot of stuff on.

Just a fold over seamed at the top for the rod, and another fold over seamed at the bottom for the hem.  Let the salvages be the side hems for each panel. You and your sis could whip up a pair pronto.

joonie i still think you should go for those pink curtains i found for you on ebay.. or that lime green fabric

I don't know if its allowed to post freebie links, but the freebie forum, I go to, has names of great places, where you can always get fantastic deals.

My living room, has these really nice sheets, that look like curtains and I got them for 10 bucks.. big huge dbl window.

Fabric at thrift stores, I can't sew either, lol, and fabric.. or as I call it "tapestry" also looks good by itself on walls.

I found fabric, really cheap nice purple silk, that are curtains in the other room.. a green sheet in one, w/ white ruffles over it.

I love being creative!! and yes, it does look really nice!!

Thanks for the ideas guys! I will look around to see if I can find something that fits my budget. I have decided to put MIL's curtains back up they are navy blue, do not really go with teal walls, but they will do until I find something. I would just use the curtain from the trailor, but they are white and got ugly flowers on them, no I did not pick them they came with the trailor

I saw a pretty fabric shower curtain at freak-mart the other day and it would have worked with the colors of my livingroom, just was not sure on how to get it on a rod. The windoes have those U shaped white rods. Not sure.

A friend of mine was telling me that she bought decoraters dust sheets (not sure if you call them that) and dyed them to match her room and added curtain tape. hey presto curtains.

Hummm... you mean dust ruffle? That thing that goes between your matteress and box spring? No decoraters sheets that they put over furniture when they decorate

I agree with marian.  find something the same colour as the wall (wide ribbon or fabric) and make tie backs, that should tie the colours together and look great.  Pardon the pun.Sometimes websites like Overstock.com or Smartbargains.com have great prices and sales on stuff like that.

Joonie - stick newspapers over the lower half of the window or whitewash them with chalky window cleaner and tell the neighbours you're decorating

Seriously Joonie, how about matching up some ribbon or fabric to your walls and decorating the navy curtains by fusing on a band or, as already suggested, tie backs?

Well, I washed the navy blue curtains, years and years of dust on them... What? MIL has been busy the last few years to even worry about dusty curtains

Anyways... one set is not as dusty as I thought... they are actually faded from the sun

Darned ol' windows.... why do we have to have windows

Actually, I do like the look of interior shutters painted white, and you can open or close them easily.  They are pretty cheap too!

Hey - we should have a new TV show where all of us gimps go in and makeover each other's homes.  It will take a big team of us, because we'll each only be able to do a small amout, but boy do we all have great ideas!

We could call the show "A RHEUM WITH A VIEW"  Sorry i just couldnt resistLOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!

Heheheee... Rheum with a View .... wonder if HGTV (Home & Garden Television) would like to take on that show.

MIL is having the same problem with her new house and finding curtains. And her walls are beige LMAO!

I am SOOOO glad that the bathroom does not have windows... we just painted it the left over Peacock Plume last night... well hubby did, and helped as much as I could sitting in a chair and what my wrist would let me do. Mostly I pointed out spots I could still see the wall thru

LOL@ Pin cushion

You mean like "Changing Rheums"?
