My RA Doc wrote a script for a anti-inflammory med that I had never heard of . PHENYLBUTAZ . I had to go to a compounding pharmacy . They had to mix this drug and put in capsule form. My Dr. stated it was the strongest anti-inflammory that there is.  I checked online for info and all I found were thing about the use in horses. My dad is a rancher and he had used it on our horses for bursitis . I think that the people who regulate horse racing have banned the use in race horses because they were doing alot of damage to joints as they didn't feel the pain.  I think that they called this stuff  (BUTE).  If anyone eslse has taken this please let me know. So far this stuff seems to be helping. I have a cast iorn stomach thank goodness.

My Dad took it about 40 years ago. This drug has lots of dangerous side effects - like a super steroid.

I googled and found following info:-

GENERIC NAME: phenylbutazone

BRAND NAME: Butazolidine

DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Phenylbutazone is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) effective in treating fever, pain, and inflammation in the body. As a group, NSAIDs are non-narcotic relievers of mild to moderate pain of many causes, including injury, menstrual cramps, arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions. Since the response to different NSAIDs varies from patient to patient, it is not unusual for a doctor to try a variety NSAIDs for any given condition. However, because of an unique risk of bone marrow suppression (causing dangerously low white blood counts), phenylbutazone is generally reserved only for short-term use in selected patients.

(plus other details, but won't copy it here - you can check it - sounds as if it won't be a long-term med for you)
