I am on MTX - what type of labs does your rheumatologist order to monitor you? I know there is a long list of blood labs. Is a urinalysis a typical lab to pull say, every 2 months? Thanks in advance. Cathy I get my liver enzymes checked every 2 months and at first it was more often and is done using blood.

Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA)
William Jefferson is a ninth-term member of Congress, representing the 2nd district of Louisiana. Rep. Jefferson’s ethics issues stem from his business dealings and from the misuse of federal resources.
Federal Investigation into Business Dealings
Rep. Jefferson has been the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation by the federal government since approximately March 2005. In August 2005, federal agents searched his home in New Orleans and his home and car in Washington, D.C., as well as the home and office of his campaign accountant in New Orleans after Rep. Jefferson was videotaped accepting 0,000 in 0 bills from Lori Mody, a Northern Virginia investor and former technology executive who was wearing an FBI wire. During the raid on Rep. Jefferson’s home, FBI agents found ,000 in cash in ,000 increments wrapped in foil in the Congressman’s freezer.
The 83-page search warrant affidavit released on May 21, 2006, described Rep. Jefferson as a man who solicited hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes, discussed payoffs with African officials, had a history of involvement in numerous bribery schemes and used his family to hide his interest in high-tech business ventures he promoted in Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria.
In January 2006, one of Rep. Jefferson’s former aides, Brett M. Pfeffer, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit bribery of a public official and aiding and abetting the bribery of a public official and in May 2006, Vernon L. Jackson, the CEO of iGate, pleaded guilty to paying more than 0,000 in bribes to the family of Rep. Jefferson. Rep. Jefferson is very likely to find himself soon charged with bribery, honest services fraud and conspiracy. He has also violated numerous House rules.
Use of the National Guard to Visit Home and Retrieve Property
Five days after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, on September 2, 2005, Rep. Jefferson allegedly used National Guard troops to check in on his home and collect a few belongings – a laptop computer, three suitcases and a large box. By using the National Guard to visit his home and retrieve property -- at a time when the citizens of New Orleans had no such similar opportunities -- Rep. Jefferson appears to have violated House rules.

Okay, back to lab tests - and thanks for the answers - thats what my rheumy pulls every two months. So, for what reason would a rheumy pull an arbitrary urinalysis? Does anybody know why a rheumy would do a urinalysis on an irratic schedule? Thanks in advance and take care ~~ Cathy
I used to always have to have a urinalysis along with my blood work..they said it was routine...who knows. I haven't had to have a urinalysis for years.
Maybe they are checking to see if you are taking your meds as described...who knows. Ask your DR. next time your in and see what he/she says....they may tell you, then again maybe not. Seems odd though doesn't it?
My tests on MTX were always the liver panel, RF, CBC, and sed rate every 6 weeks I think, then it went to every 3 months. That seems like so long ago so my memory may not be correct.

Mine are: CBC w/diff and platelet count, AST, ALT, Albumin, ESR, Creatinine, CRP--it is 3 vials of blood. Never urinalysis. I would ask the doctor when you back. It is your body--you certainly have the right to ask and be told the reason. The more you understand--the better.I have the liver test, no urinalysis. Once a month.

Maybe he's checking for a Urinary tract infection? With all the steroids and things we are on the can mask infection. All you have to do is ask, I'm sure he'd be glad to tell ya.I plan to ask him. I just had my labs one week in advance of my regular two-month appointment. I was told I had a standing order for a urinalysis each lab visit, but for the second time in a six-month period no urinalysis. I was just asking a civil question. How interesting. I've also never had a urinalysis on MTX, but maybe there is something in your medical history that makes him think he should get one to be on the safe side. Or, maybe he's been seeing UTIs with people on MTX, so he's worried about it. Let us know what he says... I'm curious now. A urinalysis can give a doctor a lot of information on how your body is
