Every Friday evening my husband cooks a great steak dinner using our old cast iron skillet and I enjoy a glass or two of red wine. And every Saturday my PMR symptoms are worse. Hmmm...after a while I stopped the red wine. No difference. Two weeks ago we had barbequed steak over at my son's and the next day I felt fine. Hmmm...so this Friday we broiled the steak...no cast iron skillet...and I felt normal (whatever that is w/PMR!) on Saturday. I think the extra iron one gets when using those ol' skillets was exacerbating my symptoms. Anybody have any ideas on this??? I've been taking 300 mg of iron for 5 weeks and I've had horrible pain. Also cook breakfast in an iron skillet. I read on a medical sight where you actually derive iron from the skillet. OMG! this is really scary. Now what? I see the hemotologist Thursday. I'm sure he will poo poo this away. I may have to experiment on my own. HMMMMMMM?Wow...this is very interesting! I know as we get older we are not even supposed to take iron supplements (unless there is a medical reason). And, yes, I have also read that one derives iron from those cast iron skillets. At any rate, I am staying away from them. Please let me know what your dr says...thanks!
