I have noticed my arthritis symptoms seem much worse since starting mtx. and prednisone. how could this be? anyone else have this?

kelly

Kelly,

I never did the MTX.  I got much sicker on predisone and the docs kept telling me that was impossible.   This is what convinced me this was an infection.

When I first started MTX it didn't do anything for about 3 months, so the RA did its usual thing...sometimes worse...sometimes better.  When the MTX did start working, however, there was a noticeable difference, progressively more good days vs bad days.  I also had to increase the dose to 22mg per week before it started working.

About 3 or 4 weeks ago I took MTX and swore up and down 'it' made me feel worse after taking it! Now, after taking more (6 x 2.5) I love it, am doing much better and am trying to get off of the prednisone 15 (down 1/2 half of a pill the last 2 days).  so, yes!, I believe you could have a day of feeling worse......anything can happen with this stuff.

sarah, (I do hope you feel better tomorrow!!(I've gone from screaming into the phone 'DO SOMETHING FOR ME' last month to really living my 'normal life')

thanks guys, i am starting to feel better today. it is snowing here in MN> and my joints dont hurt! wow, thats a new one! my head fog is going away. and only had to take 1 ultram today. usually i take three and two prednisone. i guess we will see what tomorrow brings?

Hi,kelly,

Dang!! Shoot!!I spoke toooo soon. I felt awful today after taking the MTX yesterday. (also getting oooff of the pred, maybe that's it?)

sarah

Yes you can feel worse a day or two after taking MTX and Prednisone...i've experienced it since taking it and many times I feel A LOT worse than I did before starting it.  But the swelling in my ankles and fingers have gone down so I know the MTX is working.
