What do you think of Remicade? | Arthritis Information

Please everyone, what do you think of Remicade? Not many people who responded to my 'what meds do you take' topic said they do? Is enbril better? The doc makes more money on 'infusing' remicade than us injecting ourselves, it would seem! So, I'm wondering about switching to something else???

I have been on Remicade for about 1 1/2 years now.  Was on Enbrel before that.  For me the Remicade is so much better.  Enbrel gave me constant sinus infections and migraines.  As for the Remicade, the only down side so far for me is that it only seems to last about 4 weeks out of the 6 that I get each infusion and the cost is very high. But I have not noticed any side effects with the Remicade. I take Plaquinel also and no others except vicodin for pain.

Hope this helps somewhat.  good luck.

I like the fact that with remicade you have a lot moe flexibility of dosing thatn with the other biologics.  You can increase the dose if necessary or decrease the interval between doses or both if neededSinus infections? I hadn't heard of that. I've been on Humira for a month now and have had a lot of sinus trouble. But I've just been attributing it to allergies.Been on Remicade over a year, I'm no longer anemic, so something is working, but am not sure it wasn't the Pred. It was Anemia of Chronic Disease, so getting the RA flare shut down took care of that. I think I feel better than the past couple of years, more energy, sleeping better, but my RA has been a gradual decline. I want to be those actors on the TV, getting on their knees to garden, implying they can get on their horse or dancing, but I'm not. I can honestly say, I don't feel any different after the Remicade infusion, or today after the MTX pills yesterday, but what would I feel like if I hadn't taken it? So Buckeye, it's working for you?
DeidreDear Deidre, I feel the same, today after mtx, pred, (interesting about the REmicade....4 weeks you feel like you need more. I'll run that past my doctor. I had the impression, also but he put it off until 8 weeks, but said I could come in earlier if I need to. Hey, I have another Idea , I'm going to take 2-1/2 preds today the 3 tomorrow and so on, so I'll reduce the amount over the week but not every day--every other day. since my doc is on easter break I'm on my own!! (they did refill my prescription though). thanks for writing, sarahSarah,
I get your going from 3 to 2.5 every other day, but I don't see this really effectively decreasing the Pred because you're going back to the 3 every other day. Maybe you should go to 2.75, ha ha, cut those tiny pills in half (thank god they have the first cut line)and then in half again and then in half again, no they would just turn to powder. I had a terrible time cutting the half to the quarter, me and my straight razor, I felt like a junkie, just glad it's done with, have been pred free for 3 months, but still look longingly at pred bottle.
DeidreThanks Deidre, that's what my husband said also. He said I need the amount 'I need' every day and can't decrease one day down to nothing!! Oh well, I'll keep trying (I have a pill splitter...a clever little object) Have a great day, sarahOn my way to town to go grocery shopping for the Easter potluck, it's 90 miles round trip so I took some Aleve. Hope you can figure out your pill dilema.
Deidre
