atkins = pain reduction | Arthritis Information

Hi guys, Ive only been around since september but I developed a gluten intolerance shortly after being diagnosed with RA.

I noticed through my induction on the atkins diet (which is of course no carb/no sugar) that the pain I normally have during the day has been greatly reduced, although I am still having morning stiffness and pain) - not to mention ive lost 10 lbs and 4 inches off my waist in two weeks.

Im a sugar addict with a high amount of candida yeast growth in my belly, and leaky gut syndrome which triggered the RA in the first place. I just have ZERO will power, so getting through this 2 weeks has been an amazing accomplishment.

Of course, Im not certain like everything. Im still on all my meds - buts its just noticable if any of you believe in the infection connection.
Just wanted to share, God bless
Congrats on feeling better and getting thru those first 2 weeks!!  I hope you can continue to feel better!!

Yes, I think you are absolutely right about the carbos, and all the other sugars, but what do we do to get off of them? I'm really haveing a hard time with food right now, nothing tastes like anything to me!! I eat Cocoa Crispies by the box!! , honestly it is funny, but tht's the only thing that tastes good to me. Prednisone makes me crave food, I've gained 10 lbs!, and still gaining (like 2 lbs a day!!), so I'm really out of control. I made up my mind I wasn't going to worry about it, I won't die from Cocoa crispies and don't have any children around who would say , 'what are you doing?????' Anyway, I'm trying to cut back, and find good foods to eat....Oh well, Pred, MTX & Remicade, but I don't hurt any more....one step at a time!!

lol your not the only one, but my vice was totally fruity pebbles, and a half gallon of soy milk. I have gone off and failed so many diets
when i first got RA I went from 180 to 252 because I could barely move, was depressed, and just wanted to smoke reefer and eat pizza with my boyfriend all day at the time. I just kinda gave up on everything.

Then I got the lapband and got down to 230, but i found I could still eat all the sweets, which was no good. Plus Ice cream and milk shakes.. hell. But getting the band told me I had to do something, i didnt want everyone to think I was just a loser.. I just tried to force myself to start walking, and the only way I have success is to cut out entire food groups from my diet.

I cant just be like "look cha, dont eat AS much" -- because once I get started I just cant stop. I have a feeling I was a starving refugee in a past life.

My sisters wedding is in mid may and I really want to look good in the brides maids gown because the other two maids are thin! I current weigh 208, and ideally would like to get back to a size 14 (190 lbs) before then so I can just feel normal.

I first realized the gluten intolerance after cutting out bread and then adding it back in and i would flare like no other.. and then be on the toliet the rest of the night.. at first I thought it was coincidental.. so kept cutting it out for like a week, and then eating.. maybe a bagel.. SAME THING.
A lot of people on AP do sugar free, gluten free diets and they say it really
makes a difference in the success of their treatment. Yeast LOVES sugar! I'm
glad you found out that link between what you eat and what you feel---I've
been looking for one all year. I went gluten free for about 3 weeks on a
detox, and while it's not dramatic, I do notice I feel sort of sluggish and
bloated now if I eat a bowl of pasta or something.

I know you can't eat sugar, but I still can't resist pointing out that Fruity
Pebbles are gluten free (at the moment).Glad to hear things are going well SB! You're due for some good things Sweetie.....Glad to hear it!
