Remission with pregnancy | Arthritis Information

My daughter is pregnant and has RA.  I have read here that some people have gone into remission when pregnant.  Did the remission come at a certain week in pregnancy?  How long did it last after pregnancy?  When the remission was over was your RA worse or more mild?  Did breastfeeding keep anyone in remission longer?

Thanks for your help I really appreciate it!!!

I went into full remission about 6 weeks into the pregnancy. Six weeks after giving birth it came back with a vengeance and I went from mild RA before pregnancy to moderate RA post pregnancy.

Breastfeeding did not have an impact at all.

This, however, may not be the case for your daughter.

I wasnt diagnosed when I had my youngest (aged 13) but I had all the symptoms before I became pregnant.Whilst I was pregnant I had an abundance of energy and no swellings or pain, it all started again when I was sterilized 3 months after her birth.I had huge swellings on my knees and could hardly walk.I did breastfeed but it didnt seem to make any difference.

We are all different so maybe your daughter will have it good

Congratulations on the great news, I hope you get that grandson!

Thanks for the info!  And pin thank you!  Yeah I want a grandson real bad.  We have NO BOYS...all girls lol.

I appreciate what you guys said.  I did not experience my RA when I was pregnant so I just didn't know what to expect or what course this disease could possibly take with her.  Now I am more prepared to deal with what may come after the baby is born.

I got RA when I was pg with oldest DD, started the last month. I went into remission probably by the 6th week with the 2nd DD, but 2 weeks after she was born I had a terrible flare and the Dr. started me on MTX and you can't breast feed anymore. Hope it goes better with your daughter, if she flares after the delivery maybe there is something new they can give her that won't hurt the baby. A new baby and a flare don't go well together.
DeidreI was going to stay with my daughter for the first week after the baby is born.  After reading some of these posts I might be going back later on to help her out too.  She will have some help during the day since her fiancee works 3rd shift.  Which is nice.  I know with my husband working 2nd shift it has been invaluable even tho my kids are teens that are left at home.
