humira pen injector ? | Arthritis Information

I took my first humira shot since Jan 5. I had surgery and finally got to take it this morning. Well, I some of it ran down my leg. I know it pierced the skin because my leg was bleeding but I don't know how much of it didn't go in. Does this happen to anyone, and if so, what do you do? I can't remember if it is normal to lose some of the meds or if I screwed up???????????

I took my second shot friday. I go in the stomach. You need to hold the pen so you can see the bubble that the med is in and don't remove it from whatever body part until you see the screen turn completely yellow. Humira has an awsome help program. Just call the nurse number you have and they should be able to help you. They also have a reminder service on when it's time to take your shot and re-order (I think). Just call 1-800-4humira and they should be able to tell you what to do. Also get enrolled in the my humira program. When I took my shot I used the ice pack and if you leave the medicine out for about 30 minutes to get to room temp, it shouldn't burn as bad. I also bleed after my injection.

Hope this helps

Elda

CinDee,

I'm not on Humira anymore but Elda is right, call the Humira nurse. They're really helpful.  She called me quite a few times when I first started and answered all my questions.

That has happened to me too....I was pinching my skin like the regualar syringe....maybe thats whats wrong.  Hope we get better at this whole pen thing....

I love the pen but it did take some getting used to.  Especially positioning it to see the little window since I inject in my legs.  Injecting in my tummy literally makes my tummy turn lol.  I bleed after my injection too and will bruise.  But in the long run, I guess I will deal with that rather than not being able to get out of the bed in the morning.

I think I will call my doc tomorrow to see what he says. I have to make an appt anyway. I know I did get some injected, I guess I will just have to wait and see if it helps.

Maybe I should do my stomach next time. I have more blubber there. My leg is hard gristle fat....lol.

Thanks for replying guys. I hope your humira works for you and fast!

CinDee--

I'm not on Humira, but I am on Enbrel.  The first time I injected, my doctor had me bring it into his office where a nurse there showed me exactly how to do it.

Maybe when you talk to your doc, you can ask if one of the nurses at the office can show you how to inject.

I sure hope the Humira works for you!!

You're fine this time CinDee; but Elda's advice is right on. Just try not to let up on it too quickly.

Hang in there. You'll get the hang of it.

Tonight was the first time in months that I injected in my leg and the same thing happened.  My tummy is definately 'softer' but the injection site is so tender - I cringe when my pants rub against it!  I have always wondered if I got it all in though - and now I KNOW ! I know I did get some injected just not all. I am ticked cuz' I didn't want to waste a precious drop! My leg is sore too Vickey.....so like I said some went in. I will know in a couple of days. Do you guys that take humira feel achy and sick the next day? I do....then it's all gooood.

How long, is it working for you? The first time, i tried it too, it ran down my leg and i was trying to put it into my stomach! lol..

Have done it twice more since then.. and yes it BURNS.. and I take it before bed.. where I take sleep meds and pain pills... I Hate needles, but realized this was something i was going to have to do. Mine is twice a month, but I'm seeing my Rhem dr and letting him know, I'm not getting better, but worse.  I do know meds can take a long time, to get the full effect. I really like reading other peoples experiences, it does help. :)

I have been on Humira since last June.  It works good for me.  I do flare with the weather, but not as bad as I would be if I didn't have the Humira.  I had a horrible fall/winter and feel I would have been way worse without it.

I do Humira every other week and MTX injection every week.

Cindee,

I wrote that I'm not on Humira anymore but, I never got achey or felt sick or anything, it didn't effect me at all except for the damn "burn from hell" as it was going in. It just didn't work for me at all and I'm wondering, if I HAD gotten sick with it that maybe that would've meant it was working. I'm just wondering. Remicade is next for me and I don't know if people generally feel sick with that one.

Well I do know I didn't get much injected. I didn't get the burn when I injected. My leg wasn't sore or bruised the next day as it usually is. I usually feel really run down the next day all I felt was the pain & stiffness of ra. We have had t storms and I feel that for sure.

I decided to wait and take my next one in two weeks in the stomach with my husband's help. My cyst isn't completely closed and I was really worried about taking it in the first place. Even though the surgeron said it was ok. In two weeks, it should be all healed , I hope. I started Humira in late Oct. I took 4 shots. Every two weeks. I developed a golf ball sized cyst on my tailbone in Jan. I went on antibiotics for two weeks and had surgery on Feb.1 or 2. So I haven't taken a shot since Jan.5th. I SO wanted this shot to help me......oh well. There's always next time.
