Rhuemy is changing me to Arava. Anyone taken or taking it? What's the opinion on it? Is it any better than MTX? I have heard you get dry eyes and hair loss from it, is this so for anyone. I'm a bit worried about this one. Any help appreciated.
Hey Jenee, I started taking Arava about 6 months ago I think. I haven't noticed any real problems except some hair loss. None of my friends said it's noticeable but I notice it. It's weird, like I run my fingers through my hair and there are like 6 hairs that come out at a time. I've started taking Women's Ultra Mega vitamins and folic acid to try and curb this. I have a rheumy appt. on Thursday and I intend to ask him if the hair loss sort of levels out and stops or if it's constant for as long as i'm on the Arava. Other than that, no other side effects - happy to report. I started it when my RD asked me "what would you like to do that you can't do anymore?" and I said 'Walk up steps without wincing in pain" - my knees were shot! After a few DAYS on the Arava, I was running up and down the stairs in my house. There are good days and bad but right now, the good outweigh the bad. Good luck to you!

Was wondering what other meds you take with it. I am getting a script in the mail so am going in blind with this one. I would normally ask rheumy for answers. I have read taking it with MTX can increase liver problems, what do you think? I would so love to do stairs again, it can be so restricting!
