My RD and a pharmacologist told me it's okay to take ibuprofen. My RD toldI take it all the time. Well; not all time, but; it's my day time pain medication. Been on MTX 4 year.
There's no interactions if that's your fear. It can cause stomach problems especially in large doses.....but other than that, it's ok.
At leaast that's the advice I've been given anyway.
I was just wondering about the interaction with mtx. if i took it once in a while. Today i have my first blood draw i will wait and make sure there ok first. thanks,
kel
Hi,
I take etoricoxib (cox-2 inhibitor) with MTX, I would check with your Dr or Pharmacist as there may be reasons why you shouldn't take NSAIDs with MTX due to other contra-indications...
Dear kel, Wikipedia and Google have information about all of the drugs we take and what interacts with what!! I had this huge long list of drugs, then had a 'what can I taake' , etc. It is very time consuming, but no one seems to know for sure what not to take with what, so I went with the computer information!! My RA doctor says add Tylnol, no asprin (but my heart doctor wants me to take 1/2 asprin per day...go figure!), I just wish the RA meds would work well enough so I wouldn't have to take anything else. 15 prednisone, 15 methotrexate, remicade
good luck, Sarah
I take it once in awhile when I need to. My doctor said it was ok and even suggested I take it when I am hurting. In fact I have been gardening today and every bone in my body hurts and I have a headache and just took 2 Advils.
if you are taking another anti inflammatory such as celebrex, naproxen, mobic, relafen etc then you really shouldn't be adding ibuprofen. If you aren't then you can. In and of itself it is ok to take ibusorfen with methotrexate. You just need to be careful of mixing NSAIDS. Check with your doctor about it in your particular situation.
Hurts-Wikipedia is not the worlds most accurate site since almost anyone can add information to it. RXlist or medlineplus drug information sites are both really good with durg information
