I was wondering how everyone shaves?

I have a hard time shaving because of my hands. I cannot grip the razor because my hand will not close tight enough around the handle most days, so I go without shaving until I can grip the handle.

I have looked for razors with fat handles, like I did with my toothbrush, and the only ones they have are expensive and require blade replacements, which are not cheap either.

It is getting summer time and shorts are a must where I live, otherwise I would killover from heat stroke Nair for your legs?  I am OCD to the max about armpit hair and shave them daily now matter how much it hurts me.  What helps me is taking hot showers and letting the hot water do its work to relax everything before I try to grip the razor and shave.

this might sound silly but you might be able to find a grip for a golf club and adapt it to fit on your razor.  You can check at any local golf shop and ask if they have golf grips for sale.  If so take your razor and see if they have juvenile grips as they will have a smaller hole.  You would have to cut the grip down and maybe even use a bit of tape to tighten the grip to the handle.  But it should work...if ya ask nice the house pro might even help make it work.

STOP laughing...hehehehe...it should work...

Something else I just though of was finding one of those over-sized grip pens and scavenging the rubber/foam grip for the razor handle...

Best I could think up off the top of my head.  ;)

Hummm.... that sounds really really funny

If I do that I am going to yell "fore" everytime I go to shave. LMAO!

I am going to have to try that.  That is a cool idea.  Especially for my OCD self about pit hair lol.

Joonie, shaving with non grippy fingers sounds dangeroos! I was thinking 'build up the handle somehow'. Breck's idea sounds good. Check your pharmacy store for grippy type tubular finger stall or the hardware/plumbing supplier - the prop makers favourite shops   I use a hair removal spray, it goes on like a foam an then you rinse it off with the shower I do underarms but stopped with the legs.  I have very light colored hair and there is very little on my legs anyway.  I also have these little red bumps all over my legs and am afraid to shave them all off, ouch.  Dr's don't know what they are yet. Grammaskittles. I know I'm probably preaching here but please give
another thought to using nair. Read the bottle. You have soooo many
lymph nodes in that region and they just drink that stuff up. Waxing
would be so much healthier I would think. Nair is really convenient but
anything that can dissolve hair (something that drano does) could not be
good for our lymph systems. Bonny, sometimes people on AP get weird skin things. So it could be a herx
or a yeast or fungal thing. Do you take probiotics? If it's a herx thing, the
hydrogen peroxide bath might help, but I would do a little test skin patch
before I put hydrogen peroxide all over it.By the way, shavers, has anyone tried electric?

I hate electric.  I don't think it cuts as close and lasts very long.

I prefer to splurge for the expensive razor with the fat handle and replacement blades with the soap around them.  I think they are called intuition.  It isn't cheap by any means but it makes it easy and painless which is most important for me.

I wish I had a brain....can't think of the name.  But they are very large, with the disposable heads that have the shaving cream on them already.  I love them, can grip them, and don't have to waste time putting on shaving cream.  Now what's the name of them????

Damn, use them daily...what the heck???....I'll have to look and get back to you.  Damn foggy head............

I use an offbrand from the Family Dollar store. They are green I think, They have a slip proof handle and for some reason they are really easy to use, at least for me, they may not be what you need.

What about those pipe insulator thingies...that would work over a shaver handle wouldn't it?

mia

I save everyday....everywhere; sometimes twice a day. It's difficult when my back hurts; and if my back is REALLY bad I'll skip; but I can't go long before I start freakin out. I shave my legs all the way up to the top of my thighs in the shower every morning and when I take a bath at night I'll do it then too. I love smooth skin....my husband appreciates it too!

An electric shaver would be good joonie; or that intution shaver with the soap on it like Mama mentioned. I've used those. I can actually use any of them I'm not real particular; but I do LOVE those expensive ones with the disposable heads; I can't think of the name right now either. I just hate paying that much for the replacement heads. Their rediculous!

I think if I get to the point I can't shave anymore I'll have to go get waxed. I can't stand not to shave.

VENUS! That's what their called.I thought of a way to do this if you have a razor you like...I would die w/o my trusty Atra Plus.

But you could use good old Duct Tape (yeah, I might be having a Red Green flashback again...) to build up the handle. Then they sell this goop you can dip the handles of your tools into that adds a rubber/plastic coating to them. It is a great grip and feel. I think this would be the best way to make something work for you specifically and it would be EASY and cost about in materials with LOTS for other tools or whatever.

Here is some info I found for the "tool dip" over at the HGTV site:

It is neat stuff and it has lots of uses. I have seen it in pretty much any hardware store I have been in.

Now that I only have one leg, I'm done in half the time!

Thanks for all the advice guys

When I use to work, I would buy the expensive replaceable razors, but back then my hands were not as bad off as they are now.

I looked into the electric razor yesterday, because they were on the same aisle as the other razors, and the cheapest one they had was . I remember when I was a teenager my mom bought me one for my b-day, and it seemed like I had to save every other day. I have dry skin, so if I shave every other day, I get bumps.

As for the NAIR, no no NO... I used that a couple of times, and everytime I used it... I would get these rashes and they burned. I guess my skin is sensitive to chemicals.

Anyways, I will look into the rest of ya'll's info and see if anything will work for me.

Thanks I'm telling you guys, if something can dissolve hair, what is it doing to the
rest of your organs?

Lorster, I agree - same goes for wotsit cola

Joonie, remember somebody on here had a handy hubby who adapted cutlery handles? That could work for razors. Hmm, somebody is sitting on a small goldmine here

Something else puzzles me.................quite a few people here say they lose hair through taking mtx, does that apply to legs and pits?

Tinker39188.0411921296

I have zero pit hair, and almost no leg hair.  Another place has gotten so sparse I look like a 10 year old. I shave maybe once a month, and even then, only need to just about 4 inches below my knees, along the top of my shin. I don't need to pluck my brows hardly ever too.

My head hair is still about what its always been, very thin and fine, but  no real loss.

I think part of it is MTX part is genetics. after menopause my mom  became pretty much hairless too.

I stopped the mtx the end of January but my head hair falls out by the hand fulls still.  They think it is from adrenal exhaustion.  I take 4 mg of folic acid daily so my leg and armpit hair grow like WEEDS!!!!!!!!  I only shave up to my knees though as my thighs hair if blond so can get away with it pretty easily and I am down to shaving about twice a week, just don't have the strength for it.

WOW, this thread has made me think!

I got into a new relationship in January (it's going well by the way). Over the last couple of years I've not really bothered shaving much - only for special occasions... My problem is that I can't do it properly, bending over etc is too much, I can bend over but not stay bent so I'm not very accurate

Good luck all!

KT

Glue styrofoam or duct tape it to the shaver handle.

Also warm those hands up before you get in the shower and try to shave. Heating pad, hot wash cloth, or a rice pack and the do stretching and gripping exercizes to warm up - then you can be an Olympic athelete in the shaver race.

:)

Oh goody! More ideas to try out

Does anyone else have trouble shaving their underarms? And how do you go about getting them shaved? The same way as your legs?

I had many days were I cannot bend my elbows enough to touch my own nose or fed myself without having to bend over to what I am eating, because I cannot get my elbow to bend enough to reach my mouth. It is more like 3-5 days out of the week when my elbows get like that. My left more than my right, but not because I broke my elbow, it was very limited before I broke it, and it seems to have the same range bending and all. I did think it bent better after my surgery, but it must have been from that coritsone injection they gave me

My hubby does not care about my hairy legs, and he will help me shave, he will use this beard trimmer on me
