Traveling outside the country:Vaccines? | Arthritis Information

Share

I am traveling to Guatemala soon.

I am wondering about getting some vaccines because of my worries about
getting sick more due to lowered immune system...

Any suggestions? Anyone been abroad lately and got vaccines?

Thanks,

You should definitely talk to your doctor.  My understanding is you should not take live virus vaccines...not sure which ones would be a problem.

No live vaccines is the general rule of thumb.

Hi Arthmom,

Best advice is to check with your Dr.  Also go to the CDC site and check to see what vaccinations are required for your destinations.  When we went to Guatemala, my Dr, a Rheumy, told me vaccinations were not really necessary if we were going to big cities like Guatemala City or a cruise port.  However, if you are going into the interior (rainforest, jungle, etc.) they may be required.

Hope this helps.
