My hair is falling out and I take 6@2.5 mgs of Methotrexate, and 3 somethings of Remicade every 8 wks. Does Remicade also cause hair loss? Prednisone?

I did mtx shots, about 15mg from October to the end of January and my hair is still falling out. I do not know about the remicade at all. I have been on prednisone since last June and my hair loss didn't start until the fall? re you on any folic acid?Since I started methotrexate my underarm hair has stopped growing and my hair has started to really thin out. The only good thing is that I don't have to shave under my arms anymore!!
Speak to your rheumy - he may be able to prescribe something for hair loss.

I experienced thinning hair while taking MTX. I stopped taking it when I started on Humira. I didn't talk to my doc though, which I know I should have. But my insurance lapese until May. I hated the side effects too. Only problem, is that I think my psoriasis is coming back now.I definitely had hair loss with MTX. That's one of the reasons I went off it. It was starting to come off in clumps. I also was very sick to my stomach for days afterwards. My RD didn't hesitate in trying something else. I'm just starting Remicade on Wednesday and I'm hoping hair loss isn't one of the effects. Oh, I took folic acid with the mtx, too.Does your doc give you folic acid with the mtx? They should be doing that. You should be on at least 1mg of folic acid. I am on 2mg since I inject. It helps with the thinning and hair loss but doesn't totally prevent it. MTX is a chemo drug and we get some of the side effects of it. Call your doc for the folic as it is prescribed in that high of an amount. It takes about 6-8 of the over the counter pills to get to 1mg.
Your Remicade dose is most likely 3mg per kg (3mg/kg). Pred can make your hair grow and grow very dry and frizzy like. It is most likely the mtx causing the hair thinning and hair loss. I have long thick hair and I have one spor on the top of my head...in the front of course...that is thinning. I find my hair everwhere. It is so annoying. But I like walking and getting out of bed daily so what's a chick to do ya know!
