How my appt went.... | Arthritis Information

Alright, she was pretty cool. But  -  HOLY PLATELETS BATMAN!! They're vampires. I've had blood work done but sweet jesus that was a lot. LOL I haven't had blood work for RA done since I was 13, and apparently some of these tests are new to me...whee. So she'll call with the results in a couple of days.

Of course, it was a good day - she said she understood that, it happens to everyone. She didn't deny anything I told her. After looking at my shoulder she's 99% sure it's not the joint. She said my muscles and tendons were just TIGHT as can be.....she doesn't know why though. She gave me some muscle relaxers to see if we can loosen them up.

And the crazy tight muscles aren't just in my shoulder, it's all over. She seemed surprised. She kept me on the mobic, as it's her opinion that since I've had SOOOOOOO many NSAIDs in my time, that it needs a good chance to build up in my system.

She moved and poked and prodded me - when she came back I was in PAAAIIIIINN and she knew it. But I had no swelling, and I don't usually during the day, which she was happy with. But she wasn't happy about the morning stiffness and my evening pain either.

I had no fluid on any joint, but when she got to my feet - well - the woman was AMAZED with them. They're so messed up from the RA when I was growing, I tried to explain what they did with them and she just kept going "wow" hahahaha She had me walk a little, and kept asking me "does that hurt?" when I'd stand up, or lay down etc etc - because I'm so damn stiff it LOOKS like I'm in pain, but I'm not always.

So for whatever reason, my muscles have gone haywire, and that SEEMS to be the root of A LOT of my problems - the stiffness, the shoulder, etc etc. So her tactic seems to be this:

1. I haven't had ANY blood work in 11 years, so lets see what that comes out as

2. Give the mobic a couple more weeks of fighting chance

3. See if taking some of this muscle stuff down has any effect on the shoulder and general stiffness and pain.

4. Go from there.

Soooooooooooooooooo I dunno. My flexeril(sp?) is being filled right now...I'll take one tonight and letcha know!

Dear Katie, Way to go!!, sounds like yu will be able to sort all of this out and get a good plan for treatmen. That's all we ask,

good work, sarah

Well Katie, seems as if she is doing a pretty thorough investigation for you, and that's great.  Without wishing for any nasties of course, let's hope that your blood results will give her something to work with that will bring you some relief.  And that the Flexeril (I don't actually know what that one is?? is it a muscle relaxant??) - well whatever it is, I hope it gives you some relief.
Take Care
I sure hope it helps.Yes, it's a muscle relaxer. She was weirded out by how incredibly stiff I was moving around, but it really wasn't JOINT stiffness....she poked at my muscles and tendons and they're all like rubber bands. Wonder what that means?

I hope it works for you too, Katie and soon! Don't know about the rubberband thing. Maybe they snap back in place???? lol

With your sense of humor you must find the answer! Vampires...ha ha. so true. Walk on (pain or not) Little Katie. Your motto should be "Save Katie, Save the World"

You just made my day happier@

LMAO Thanks guys :) I'm glad that the Dr was very thorough and hope the Flexeril helps tonight.Oh, Katie....look for something special in your package with your Dorothy doll.

Talk about relaxation!!!!!! =)

Sounds like a real good appointment Katie!

I take Flexaril almost every night. I do like it; but I also take tramadol as well too.

Hopr this will help with your stiffness. I'll look for your follow up post with your results later this week.

Oh, why does that scare me?????? Hahahahaha

NO VIBRATORS....................that's just creepy........

Katie,

I am so glad it went well. It sounds like you landed with a really good doctor. I hope she can get you feeling better very soon.

Laker

Yey, Katie!  I am so glad your appt. went so well.  What a relief for you!  Sounds like she will have more answers for you when your test results come in which is good too.

I hope the muscle relaxer helps.  I had really tense shoulder and neck.  I started taking the Natural Calm(from a health food store).  It is a magnesium/calcium supplement.  It works almost immediately upon drinking it.  It is definintely worth a try if the flexeril doesn't do the job.

Hey Katie,

Great news that you like your new RD!  Have you tried massage for your shoulder and tight muscles?  I have ongoing problems with my neck and shoulders that are always cleared up quickly by my hunky massage dude.  Once or twice a year I can barely turn my head and Mr. Massage God fixes me up with one or two visits.

- J.

Well, glad it all went well Katie. I use to have a female RD I went to, she done all kinds of blood work and poked, prodded, moved, bended, and all other kinds of stuff, that was just really painful to go thru and I was not even as bad off as I am now.

I hope your new RD stays cool and really helps ya out.

They are vampires. I use to tell that to the blood techs down in the lab when I use to go to the female RD. I would tell the one taking my blood they were vampires. It seemed like I always would get the new girl that did not know how to take blood painlessly.

I'm so glad she is taking all the blood work, and other tests. They can learn so much from the labs. It's just too bad the results don't come with a cure attached. Wouldn't that be too cool?

I take 1 flexeril at night, too. I think it helps, but I take so many meds I'm never sure just what each is doing. They gave me Robaxin (a muscle relaxant) for daytime muscle spasms, and the flexeril at night because it makes you so sleepy. Not sleepy enough to actually go to sleep, though; at least not for me.

Good Luck, Sweetie. I'm so glad you finally got in to see someone. And she sounds like she knows what she's doing.

Keep us posted.

Much love,

Nini

You're the whole reason I came on here tonight. You've been driving me crazy counting down the days. It sounds like a very good start although I wish she'd given you a bit more in the pain department. But some people get wonderful results with flexiril. It sounds like you have inflammation in the muscles themselves. I've read something along the way about that but of course can't remember anything. Maybe it's just from holding your body so tight all the time from the incessant pain. If it doesn't start to help within a reasonable amount of time, you be sure to call her. Usually when doctors do the lab work in their own office the results come back sooner. Hopefully you will know all kinds of things when you go back in. You did it, Katie! You made it to this day. I'm proud of you for holding out. I know you have been hurting so bad. Hey, I had inflammation in my muscles when I went back to RD, last year. What did they do for it? Well. I slept for 12 hours. O.o LOL But........I've gotten such bad sleep this past week, I think I was just catching up. When the flexeril kicked in last night, I felt GREAT - except for my shoulder. It took about 4 hours for that sucker to calm down. Sheesh. Then I finally passed out! YAY im soooo glad they are working for you.I take zanaflex and it doesn't make my potty habits any better or worse!
