I had my first appointment with a rheumatologist.  My visit was one hour and he asked lots of questions and did a good physical as well.  He documented everything as we talked.  Asked if I had any questions.  Sent me for in-depth blood work and x-rays on my hands, wrists, and knees.  Gave me a prescription for Naprosin to take for the next two weeks, then I return to learn the results of the lab work and x-rays and what his diagnosis will be and what treatment is ahead.  He explained that he believes it is RA, but will not confirm until he can review everything.

I'm happy thus far with this doctor and his staff.  My son wants me to go to a different doctor, someone who is involved in a 'teaching' hospital so I can be in a clinical trial.

Your thoughts and comments??

Glad your first appt went well. Sounds like a very thourough RD. I hope the results you get will be the answers for you.

Keep us posted

I don't have RA so can't give any advice there - but my daughter is undiagnosed and has a paediatric Rheumatologist searching for a diagnosis - but she is a medical mystery so far!

I am glad for you that it sounds straight forward and you are happy with your doc.

good luck

Hi - that sounds like a great first appointment.

I am also just at the beginning of this stuff (my first real appointment is next week - although I'm already on Plaquenil and Naproxen) so I'd love to compare notes about medications, doctors and so on....

Good luck with everything.
I'd wait and see what this doctor says at your next appointment. If you've already found a good doc, you don't need to go to a study unless it is offering something really unique. But you can have your son find out about the studies to see if there is anything worth doing. Glad your appt went well and that you are happy with the doc.  It makes all the difference in the world.  I agree with what Deanna says.  Wait and see what happens in 2 weeks.  In the meantime your son could always look and see what studies are going on.
