LOST ONE POUND CLUB | Arthritis Information

DEAR FOLKS, I've been pigging out ever since prednisone, ate 'boxes of cocoa puffs' and about everything else I could get my hands on! Yesterday, I somehow stopped overeating, (ate sensibly....like lettuce salad with tuna, a few crackers, english muffin, and a bowl of chicken noodle soup. Lots of tea, water, and diet rootbeer. )I also cut down on the carbohydrates and moved around a little more.

I  LOST a whole pound. If you have success in takin' it off and lose a pound please tell me how you did it! We don't have to mention how many TIMES we've lost that same pound, where we've been or what our goal is.....just how we lost that very pound.

Thanks, Sarah

Maybe it was water retention? Pred makes you retain water. (I think)

Oh, Joonie,  don't knock the wind out of her sails!

I'm not on pred but I still eat horribly and can't seem to reign it in.  UGH!

I have more stories about the extra pound.  LOL

Oh I know what you mean:

But, Just one foot in front of the other, just one pound at a time!! Keeping it off is the tough part. Tomorrow's another day.

We can only work on this every day as hard as we can....

lol, sarah

Congratulations.  I found your pound though, and a few more.  I can eat constantly on prednisone.  I think I out eat my husband.  My pants are getting tight and I just had a conversation with myself, lol, that I better get control.  Perhaps we should motivate eachother, have a ...."I'm on Prednisone and getting chubbier" club....give eachother ideas and motivation to get moving and put the extra food down??????

Good for You Sarah

one pound at a time pretty quickly adds up.  Just keep your eye on the skinny body that is your prize

Dear Buckeye and Debrakay, for some reason I've gotten better at resisting?? I don't know why....I'm still taking the preds. Isn't this weird. I"d love to hear your ideas for 'not over eating'!! We are a family of over-eaters, we eat too much, and my husband loooves sugar sweets, makes cakes, eats candy, so it is always in my face, but I can ALSO eat plenty without his 'help'!! Thanks for your support!.

Hi sarah, I remember years ago I went to weight watchers and lost 39 lbs total. I went with my substitute mom Bev. I reached a point where I only lost 2 pounds and was frustrated. Bev said "think of it like this, (she took a pack of hamburger out of fridge) she said this package is almost 3 lbs.!!! So if you think of it like that......it's alot. Cheered me up!!!

I gained lots of weight those 39 pounds + back taking pred.

Have your hubbie make sugar free treats. They have splenda and it tastes good. I have an excellent recipe for fresh strawberry pie made with sugar free jello and splenda. My kids love it and last night my daughter bought all the stuff so we can make one. Strawberries are cheap now and in season. Here's recipe......

Fresh strawberry Pie

Baked pie crust         & nbsp;         & nbsp;       3 oz. sugar free strawberry jello

One quart fresh sliced strawberries

1 1/2 cup splenda or 18 packs of sweet n  low or equal

1/2 cup cornstarch        &n bsp;      1 1/2 cup water

Mix splenda, cornstarch, water, and a pinch of salt (if desired) in medium saucepan. Cook over med/high heat stirring constantly until it thickens and turns clear. Dissolve jello in mixture. Let cool then mix a quart of fresh sliced strawberries. Cool and store in fridge.

ENJOY

I am sorry... I did not mean to knock the wind out of her sails. I was just suggesting maybe it was water rentention. I know when I stopped takes the 10mg of pred within a month I "lost" 7 pounds. I have still been able to keep 5 of those 7 pounds off. But I did notice I do not look as bloated, so mine was more than likely water retention.

oh my ideas for not over eating is to not buy any junk food what so ever! I have done that when I was on 10mg of pred and even though I was "hungry" and crave sugar and junk food... I do not have it to eat and I just forget about eating because I think to myself "You can eat mac & cheese". But when I know there is nothing sweet in the house, I usually do not want to eat. It is kinda like an addict, if you can see it, smell it, or in the same place as it... you will subbcome to it.

I've found plain yogurt with splenda tastes good on all sorts of things, salads instead of oil dressings. I have weird eating habits anyway, so I need to be careful. Thanks for the suggestions ....please let me know how you are doing.

sarah

Water, iced tea, diet soda, lower calorie juices like grapefruit or cranberry sweetened with artifical sugar instead of food can fill the bottomless pit, and helps with water retention. The more you drink the less you retain.

I started a pred pak and a low carb diet on the same day.  I was concerned about what the pred would do to my blood sugar as it tends to have peaks and valleys, and I am starving when it peaks!  I have "lost" 3 pounds in 4 days.

Dear Pjachy, Congratulations,

Yes ,I've found resisting the 'urge to eat' helps me. GET PAST "IT", the cravings. I eat a lot when I'm driving, an ice cream through the drive through at MC Donalds, donuts from my favorite bakery on Sat garage sale day, (they are to die for), I keep telling my self, "JUST ONE" a week, but it isn't just THAT one it is that one and, a big choc. cookie, snacks while driving into the doctor, and crazy cravings....My friends bring snacks to art group and I eat them.

So, my 'control' was questionable to begin with. Pred jsut made it worse. I was always hungry!! Starving!!  Now, I'm fighting to keep this poound off and take off another one.

thanks for your input, sarah

(also, I'm trying to keep moving, when I can. Went to a gentle, arthritis stretching, movement class Tuesday, it felt good to move. Also walking some.

Hurts, I have two tricks for not eating: one is brush your teeth often, you're less likely to eat if your teeth are freshly brushed, also those Listerine breath strips. Keep them in your purse or car and if you pop one in, they disolve in no time and give you the taste of freshly brushed teeth so you won't really want to eat. Good luck!

I've lost more than 50lbs in the last year or so.  Some of my tricks are to drink nothing but water, and plenty of it.  I don't keep any junk food in the house.  I use smaller plates to eat off of.  I try not to cook extra portions but if I do I immediately put the excess in the fridge.  Those are important to me since I am a charter member of the clean plate club.  I still can't break the habit of finishing everything in front of me.  I eat 5 small meals a day.  I always eat breakfast and have some kind of protein at every meal.

I use sparkpeople.com to track my calorie intake.  Knowing what goes into my mouth everyday is an interesting exercise.  Its amazing to see how many calories some things really are.  I also measure my food.  It is really easy to have portion creep which adds up to extra calories.

I know what you mean, and then when you don't take off weight you are surprised because you forgot to count something (like mayo) measuring is a great idea, and only water for too long would make me weak. I think most of us have that 'clean plate' club and it is not necessary!yes, we can save it for another meal.  And bad if you are an over-eater like my family and I. We'd fix the most delicious tacos and eat 3 or 4 each!!

Oh well that's in the past and I'm moving on to less calories, better food and thinner jeans. Thanks for the reminders and new ideas,

sarah

Congrats on losing the pound(s)!!!!!  It is so hard with all these drugs we are on and not feeling well enough to move let alone work out!  I truly do find the more I eat sweets, the more I crave them.  The brushing your teeth often does help!  I have a bit plate that I wear and put it in right after dinner to help discourage me from snacking!

woohoo!! Sarah is on a roll!!

I bet over the weekend she will lose 2 pounds!! I am rooting for you, Sarah!!

I'm not on prednisone so maybe my experience is not much help, but when I did that 3 week detox I lost about 6 pounds. I thought I would gain it back after the detox but it's stayed off and I'm continuing to slowly lose weight. The reason is the detox actually retrains your pallate so even after it's over you're eating healthier. The detox I did wasn't very scientific but they're all basically the same (I did the Dr Joshi Holistic Detox----you don't have to take supplements with it). You can eat all you want, you just can't eat anything you want.

My staples are brown rice, vegetables, fish and chicken, beans, and nuts and seeds. I thought eating this way would suck but it's actually really satisfying once you get used to it. The idea of drinking pop or eating a fast food hamburger repulses me now.
BTW, some artificial sweeteners (such as aspartame) stimulate your appetite so drinking them makes you feel hungrier. Please consume foods and not chemicals.

OH thanks for the support. Ugh, I live on those artificial sweeteners!! I'll try to cut down.

Thanks, Sarah
