1st RD Appt today... | Arthritis Information

Hi Y'all,

Had my 1st Rheumy appt this morning...he says it's RA considering family history and symptoms even though PCP's RF and ANA were negative. He took more blood tests and x-rays. Gave me Prednisone to take until I go back on the 27th to discuss results and treatment plan.
On one hand I am very scared, but on the other I am relieved that I know and can start meds to delay the progress of the RA. Sounds crazy when I read it back!  Blessed39190.8650115741Lisa, all of my labs are negative as well but my symptoms and family history got me the RA Dx.  Glad that you are getting started on meds soon.

It is a big relief when you get that firm diagnosis and can start the meds.  What is it that you are feeling scared about?

It sounds like you are sero-negative like many of us here on the board.  Just remember, just because you are sero-negative doesn't mean you don't have RA.  You have a good doc that looked at the big picture and not just blood work like so many docs we have heard about here do.

I can't wait to see your posts that you are on your meds and feeling good!!!

grammaskittles -

I am scared of going through what my grandmother went through for the past 12 years after being dx'd with RA and Lupus. Her passing in Oct from complications due to RA, Lupus, & Osteo was so incredibally hard to watch.

I just pray that the meds work better for me.

I can understand how you are feeling and how you would be scared.  Please Lisa hunny, keep in mind that they didn't have the drugs 12 years ago that they have now.  And there are new ones coming out soon.  I have been to heck and back with my RA (I was dx'd when they didn't have these meds too) but I am doing much better with being on the humira and mtx.  Without them, I would be in a wheelchair.

I am so sorry you had to watch your grandmother go thru that.  No one should have to go thru what she did or watch anyone go thru what she did.  Many gentle hugs to you and to your family.

Keep your faith Lisa.  I see by your signature that you do have a lot of faith.  Keep it going and keep it strong.  Keep posting and asking questions and letting people know how you feel.  You will get great support from many wonderful caring people here.

Lisa, we are here for you, I know it is very scary in the beggining. wondering how you will fare. Will we end up crippled, remission,is this a bad dream. maybe they are wrong with this diagnosis. so many questions. This site has been a godsend to me! I have learned more from these people on here than anywhere else! stay curageous, and ask all the questions you want. These people here are the best!

Good for you, you've gone from the scared to the 'i'm taking meds now and will benefit from them', it is an important transition!!

as grammaskittles says, we have such improved drugs now we won't have to go through what our grandmother's went through!!

good job, sarah
