I don’t want to go to bed! | Arthritis Information

It is almost 4 am right now and I am still awake (courtesy mostly of prednisone). It is fear too though. I keep finding myself thinking that as long as I never go to sleep (now that I am up this late anyway) then I won't have to wake up feeling so bad and so stiff... Arghhh

I love my bed and i get into it most nights thinking "this is the best thing i have done all day". I wake up in the morning and think " that was the worse thing i did last night

I hope you are feeling better now Ohhh and a heated blankie helps too.  Mmmmm love mine.

Every morning when I crack open the eyeballs I think to myself...here comes the hardest thing I have to do today.  Drag these old bones out of bed.

Thanks for humoring my temporary insanity last night that was making me think I could try to outwit this disease somehow...I just feel SOOOOOOO much better at night than I do in the mornings that I never want them to end...

I am going to bed much sooner tonight. It is supposed to be absolutely beautiful weather here tomorrow and and I always seem to feel better on sunny days. Also going to try the electric blanket idea. They are probably on clearance everywhere right now anyway!

Regards,

I got mine for a Valentines Day Present but I imagine they would be on clearance now.  I have a friend that puts her heated blankie under her fitted sheet and she says that is wonderful too.  I bet that would be a great way to do it if you have hip and knee problems.  I like to wrap up like a burrito in mine lol.  OMG - YOu just gave me such a giggle with that burrito visual!!! :-)

Melly,

This is probably a dumb question, but have you tried naproxen? My rhem told me to take it 2x a day until the other meds work better. After a few days I noticed I was not as stiff at night and in the morning.

Melly...my husband and I can not share a blanket because I do wrap up like a burrito.  He calls it "burrito-ing" lol.  All you can see is a little of my red hair poking out of the top of the blanket lol.  Melly, hope by now you have gotten some sleep.  What kind of meds are you on? When do you take your prednisone?  If you take it in the morning have you tried setting your alarm a little earlier then what you normally would to get up and take the prednisone at that time then by the time you need to get out of bed the prednisone has had a little bit of time to kick in for you.

kelsay- i have been doing that! i set my alarm for 4:30 am. take my pred. and ultram. go back to bed till 6am, and by golly, it works! it just sucks interupting sleep, i cant put them by my bed because i dring chocolate milk with them. for tummy upset:(

kel

what other meds are you taking?  Maybe talk to the dr about DMARDS or biologics.  How long are you stiff for in the morning?

I am finally now tapered down to 15 mg pred., and because of that, or perhaps due to the coincidence of starting the methotrexate a couple of days ago, I have stopped feeling that crazy wide awake all the time feeling I have been having on the pred pack super dose.

Pred or not though, I am still stiff (but not in as much pain) for about 1 1/2 to 3 hours so far - with rainy weather seeming to me to be the most influencing factor on the duration and severity.. It has made a huge difference comparatively speaking to vs the nsaids...

As far as naproxen goes, I had been on that (with the most success - if you want to call it that... as it wasn't doing much) and ALL the other nsaids prior to dx even. I was told to discontinue any nsaids during the high dose pred pack and can now start it back up...but haven't yet because I am still a little queasy from the methotrexate...

Tried an electric blanket this morning for first time - waking up and turning it on while waiting for pred and pain killers to take effect...actually even went back to sleep for about and hour, which I am almost never able to do. My lower body (which all that was under the covers since it isn't exactly cold here right now) was in much better shape when I woke up the second time around....which I guess must have been the result of the electric blanket...OR the better weather as we are onn day 3 of sunshine here...

I bet the feeling better was a combo of both the blankie and the weather.  It was warm-ish here yesterday and last night and what I did was set my blankie on like 2 and it provided enuf heat without me being all sweaty and uncomfy.  Maybe try putting the blanket under your fitted sheet so that way you are not covered in it and you still get the benefits of the warmth from it.There are heated mattress pads. My aunt used and electric blanket and mattress pad ... she liked being toasted on both sides.
