GFR level | Arthritis Information

Had a crapload of labs drawn this morning. My Rheumatoid factor is
NORMAL, how do you figure that? My CRP is still high as is my ESR, all other
labs look good except.....my EST GFR. I looked this up and it is a test of
how well my kidneys are functioning and sounds like they are not fully
functioning. Does this have anyting to do with my RA? Has anyone ever
dealt with this? I'm a bit worried about this but maybe this is just random
and has to do with the fact that I was fasting. Any help would be
appreciated. I just wonder if these drugs are causing this. Refresh my foggy brain on what meds you are on pleeeeeeeeease.  I hate brain fog.  Plaquinil 200, 2x a day
Nadolol 20 mg, 2x a day
Lunesta at bedtime
Recently been taking a lot of Phenergan at night to help me sleep and
flexeril once or twice a month for stiffness. That is it. I'm wondering if
fasting has anything to do with this.

The only thing I can find in relation to your meds is the nadolol should not be taken if you have kidney problems.  If it is hypertension that you are taking that for...hypertension and kidney issues often go hand in hand together.

If you are having kidney issues I would be questioning on whether staying on the nadolol is a good thing.

How long of a time period do you fast for?  That could have something to do with the kidneys looking like they.  Maybe really hydrate yourself really well with water before doing a planned fast and see if that helps.

I was fasting since 10 pm the night before and then didn't get the labs
drawn till 1230 pm. so probably a bit dehydrated. I have normal BUN and
Creatinine, no other symptoms. Just hoping it is from that. I called my
sister who is a dialysis nurse and she informed me that the number reflects
renal failure. I take Nadolol for migraine/headache prevention. I don't take
many over the counter medications or any other drugs besides those listed.
Grammaskittles, thanks for your time in looking this up. It seems that
everything I have read is really hard to understand, most are studies and just
talk alot about numbers. My husband tells me to quit stewing and wait for
my doctor to call and explain it to me. There are some herbs out there that
can help kidney function. I'm going to look into it.

My doctor has called me today with the same concern,   does MTHX also affect this cos I am taking MTHX as well as Plaquinel.  I hate it when they call on a Friday saying they want to go over the bloodwork - now I have to be concerned all weekend!!!  Maybe we'll compare notes on Monday when I phone the doctor!!! Thanks. Gill

I wouldn't stress too much over it until you get the results of the repeat test.  Usually kidney function tests are off due to dehydration and when repeated are perfectly normal, especially when it is only one test that is off and not the entire series Mtx affects the liver more than it does kidneys.  Every 3 months your doc should be doing blood work to check your liver function.  Thanks buckeye. I tried to see if dehydration was a factor for skewing the
results but never fouund that. All other tests are normal and I would think if
my kidneys were damaged, i would have elevated BUN and Creatinine and
they are both normal. Also, I'm not anemic, cholesteril is 214 butnormal
ratios. I'm sure it has to do with dehydration or some other circumstance.
Plus I am overweight so that kind of alters the numbers. I know they
multiply the results on native american, african americans by 1.2 so I'm sure
there is something factored in for obesity. Makes me realize more and more
how important it is to continue my weight loss efforts.
