smoothie Recipes without BANANAS help | Arthritis Information

Hi Everyone

just refound the site, and was wondering if anyone could give me some smoothie recipes that don't contain BANANAS as i am allergic to them, plus any hard type of fruit, as my dietician has said if its something you have to bite, its too hard for my intestine/bowel to cope with, but if the fruit can be squashed ie.. strawberries its ok.  She has asked me to make smoothies as i have no appetite and can just about cope with 1 cooked meal a day, so smoothies are an idea as they will give me the vitamins etc that a human needs to survive.  I have irritable bowel syndrome plus no teeth, and due to being sick after most meals last year due to drug side effects it has taken my appetite away.

For those who may remember me, since the week leading upto christmas i am electric powered, i have an electric wheelchair which has  made such a difference, i can go out when i want, within reason, and am also able to go back to my voluntary work with children, next week is school half term, and there are plenty of fun things planned where i do my work, tuesday is create and play, which involves things such as play dough, gluing, pasta shapes etc.. wednesday is my normal day at t toy library with the 0-5 year olds, thursday is the BUG MAN this guy comes in with SNAKES!! GIANT LAND SNAILS!! STICK INSECTS!! AND my least favourite a TARANTULA (i have found out that the tarantula stays in its box) the rest the kids can have hands on experience.  friday will be MESSY PLAY which is painting etc...

I met my local mayor about a month ago at a 'handing over my new wheelchair' publicity photo shoot' for my local papers and now have appeared in 3 local papers and on my councils website.  even though i sound upbeat i am also having problems with swellings in my calves, and feet and upper left arm,  i am due to see my rheumatologist on t 22nd to see if he can come up with something to help, as i cannot put on shoes at all, even socks hurt.  i saw a dr on monday as i had more swelling than normal and a horse shaped purple bruise come up with no cause, he told me i have LYMPHODEMA and chilblains and has put me on a ADALAT (NIFEDIPINE) RETARD I don't know if any of you have been on it, i was told it lowers blood pressure and opens the veins that the blood goes through.

hope to hear from you regarding any of the above

Buy some vanilla Spiru-Teen shake mix which is available at many health food stores, mix a scoop of that with a cup or so of rice milk and frozen fruit of your choice in blender. Make a delicous meal. Spiru-teen is what they use at Planet Smoothie.

I too have tried many things... ensure, slim fast, etc.   Nothing tastes good.   I have a problem with keeping my weight on also.   Although, I have to admit with the Predisone up it's easier because we all have a tendency to blow up with that medication.  :o)

Glad to hear that you are getting around now and have such a positive outlook on everything you have happening in your life.   You are quite an inspiration to a lot of us here.

Thank you !!!

One of the doctors that I used to work for recommends taking vanilla ice cream, carnation instant breakfast, and mild and blending it together for a milk shake.  It is high protien, high calorie - has plenty of vitamins and tastes very good.  You can use any flavor of instant breakfast.

Hope these help!

You can basically use any recipe for smooties just omit the banana, freeze your fruit, of course and if you need add something to make it thicker, powder milk works real well.  meme

     Hope this helps!  Ruth

Good luck!

Hi wheely-

i make smoothies with almost any frozen fruit, and sometime the canned ones- you could probably pre cook and cool the harder fruits, such as apples, or just use apple sauce-

have you tried any of the supplement drinks? like ensure?

see you on the boards-

Wow, these recipes sound delicious.  I too have problems keeping weight on.  I'll have to try some of these.  Smoothies are about my favorite thing in world!

Thanks everyone for your great recipes.

My favorite smoothie is apple juice, spiralina, bee pollen,a protein powder, flax seed, blue berrys, cherrys, pinapple, and just about anything else I can find.To wheeelyarty I know about swollen ankles and feet a friend of mine made me a vibroacoustic pillow and gave me the cd for ra.I had tried every thing I could think of to get the swelling down but no luck until then. After using the pillow about 3 times the swelling went down and has not returned like it was.I now go and exercise in our natural heated pool and no longer need my wheel chair.I am walking with a cane getting around pretty good,I have to take it easy because I want to do so much more and it's hard to make myself not push so much.I'm so grateful that I have been blessed with such good friends.I do'nt know if this would help you like it did me,but if it did that would be great
