Has anyone tried this and has it helped? I'm thinking of trying it for my residual joint pain and pain that my rhuemy feels is regular arthritis pain. It's very expensive to buy....

You can read the latest findings on it just click on this link to Medical News Today.

Chondroitin, Popular Supplement For Joint Pain, Shows No Benefit

I have spent hundreds of dollars on it but stopped about 6 months ago.

I use Osteo Bi-Flex which has the glucosamine/chroindroitin and other supplements as well, and it does help me, my hubby, and my mom.  My physician says that studies have shown it works for about 60% of the population, so it's worth a try.

If I run out and go for about 3 days without, I REALLY know it.

My uncle swears by it.  He doesnt have arthitis that i know of but he has really bad knees and has had to have surgary on them a few times and he says it really works.  I was taking it for a while but i am really bad about remembering to take my vitamins and other supplements even with the thing i have for my daily pills, prolly cause they dont fit in there so i forget.  Might have to go get a bigger one lol

OH... Try going to one of the wholesale clubs like Costco or Sams club they have a big bottle, (its not cheap) but its a lot bigger then what you would find at the other stores and i think in the long run it is cheaper that way. Good luck.

kelsaysmommy39195.2799189815My mother swears by it as well. I'm glad it works for her, but I've never gotten any relief from it. It's just like any other medication or treatment - it's gonna work for SOME, but not everyone.

Something to watch out for when taking it, is OVER-production of the synovial fluid. That can lead to synovial cysts. Icky! Just don't take more than the bottle recommends, or you could even make sure you ask your doctor about it.

It has worked very well for me, and I too cannot go without it for more than a day or so without feeling the effects.

I buy it in Nature Made TripleFlex, which is expensive, but there's a couple of things I do to save some money.  Every couple of weeks, the local pharmacy chains (Walgreens, CVS, Rite-Aid, Eckerd) have a buy one, get one free sale on the Nature Made products so I can stock up (I also take their SAM-e and acidophillus).  And Nature Made has a program where you enter codes from the bottles onto their website and can get a coupon up to once a month based on your purchases.  I have no affiliation with the company, just trying to find an affordable way to continue treatment.

Also, like kelsaysmommy said, you can try the big wholesale clubs.  I believe Costco lets you buy it on-line even if you're not a member, you just have to pay a surcharge.

If you can afford to, give it a try for a few weeks and see if it helps.

I saw the news about chondroitin, but what about the glucosamine?

Also, what about fish oil? Isn't that supposed to help?

This is such a good thread.  I had never taken any supplements, but since I have to have a knee replacement and I have a few years left on my other knee I would like to start taking supplements and see if my other knee will last a little longer.

What supplements do you all take and for what and do they work for you?

They say it's a placebo effect....but I have friends that swear by it.  I wanted to take it, however I cannot.  I'm allergic to shellfish.  Bummer, as I would have tried anything...

DebraKay,

This is the vegetable glucosomine that i used to take. I think it used to cost about 24$ a 30 day bottle of liquid. It can probably be found much less expensive on the internet. The best part is that it is quite tasty. No shell or shell fish or bone whatsoever. Happy chuggin'.
