I have been noticing lately that I have ridges on my fingernails.  I researched it and it said it can be a sign of an auto immune disease.  Is there anything we don't get with our disease

I remember the way my Grandmother's nails looked. Mine are slowly but surely taking on that same apperance.

Roxy i found this on webmd about nail health.. Hope its of some help to you..Glad to see you posting more :D

That's a good article.

It says ridges are an indication of Psoriasis or Inflammatory Arthritis (Which RA is)

That is so crazy. I've had ridges on my nails for years. Who knew.YAY glad i found something helpfull wow, i didn't know that. i have bad ridges and have for years. i thought it
was some sort of a deficiency. thanks for that info.

could be an iron deficiency I read in that article Shannon posted.

Could mean a lot of things actually.

do the ridges go up and down the nail or accross. mine go up and down my nail.

I have very deep ridges except for a nail I slammed in a car door and it came off. It grew back perfectly normal without ridges....hmmm -

Makes you think that it happens at some point in the disease. Baffles me why the new nail is normal - my disease sure isn't!

Less13139196.7691319444Have heard that vertical ridges on nails are a sign of
vitamin B deficiency - am not sure if that can be checked out. Here's what the Mayo Clinic says about vertical ridges:

For what it's worth....

That article says that vertical lines as very common as we age.....and rarely anything to worry about.

Horizonal lines might be a health concern. (Does anybody have those?)

Definately good news. We've got enough to worry about without being overly concerned about fingernail ridges; right?

Thanks Alley!
