Recurrent UTIs | Arthritis Information

I have had 6 UTIs in the last six months. Now that I've been on the immuran for 2-3 months this one is totally exhausting me. I am going in to work later and leaving early and sleeping the rest of the time. Do those of you on immunosuppresants get wiped out like this every time you get sick? I made an appt to see my primary dr on monday. These do not seem like ordinary utis to me. I become exhausted the day before I even have symproms. ugh...oh, and now I'm catching a cold too.

ok, i'm on the kidney bandwagon this week. try to get on top of the uti's.
have you tried 100 percent cranberry juice? it has to be pure cranberry to
work. it will keep the bacteria from adhering to your bladder wall. it is one
proven treatment for uti. all these infections are hard on your kidneys and
you don't need that problem. i would say that whatever antibiotic you are on
is not effectively clearing out the bacteria and getting rid of the infection
entirely. Maybe a stronger antibiotic is necessary and do you have a
resistent bug?   also, drink a gallon of water to really flush your system.
good luck, keep me posted. oh, and the other thing....you may want to ask
your doctor to do some other tests on your renal system to find out if there
is possibly a mechanical reason for the infections, treat the problem, not the
symptoms that doctors always do.
Oh you poor dear!!

I am sorry you keep getting UTIs. They are the pits. I hope they find something to help keep them at bay.

I have to agree with Lorster, make sure they are growing the bacteria in a dish at the lab to make sure the antibiotics you are taking will really kill it. My DD came home from college with a UTI and was on her 3rd round of antibiotics when they finally found out what they had given her would only relieve her symptoms, the bacteria kept coming back, she was miserable. There are also cranberry pills and vitamin C helps make your bladder acid and the bacteria don't like it.

DeidreYes, those UTI's are awful, my doctor also says showers instead of baths, Sarah Also, I wear all cotton underware, the Fruit of the Loom, or Haines, come in most styles and are comfortable, this helps. My husband and I have had them and the doc suggested showers, before and after sex (we both see the same doctor), we haven't had any problems for a while, lol sarah

Some of these things I already do but I know I am not drinking enough water and baths...... oh oh. I love my hot baths. I have been taking one every morning since my joints got so sore. Sounds like that could be the problem. Showers it is. I had tried the cranberry juice without improvement but I don't remember if it was all juice or a blend so I'll give it a try again too. Still will keep my appt with the gp - last year she was going to send me to a urologist after I had so many of these but I think she forgot. I didn't want to go so I didn't remind her!

Lorster, I found your post on the kidneys and read it. Losts of good info. Thanks for posting that. Hope you are doing well.

Lorster has good advice. The cranberry juice has worked for me.
I hope your feeling better.
I know how hard it is to drink so much water but I have been forcing myself lately and my skin even looks better. So you can imagine what it's doing for your insides.
