Nausea from plaquinil | Arthritis Information

I have now been nauseated for a month, could not understand why until
yesterday. I spoke with a woman at the doctor office who told me she did
great for the first several months on plaq and then started getting nausea
and stomach ache, all the time. Well, that is what I have. No other changes
in anything. So, it has to be the plaquinil. Has anyone else experienced this
after several months on this drug? The up side is that she lost quite a bit of
weight so maybe that is a plus for me. That sounds like a long time to be sick to your stomach, I do hope you can chng to something that works better, a month of trying seems like enouch to me! SarahSame thing happened here. The only side effect I experienced when first taking the drug was dizzyness. About 2 1/2 - 3 months into treatment with Plaquenil I began to experience mild nausia and some stomach discomfort. At this point it is mild and I can deal with it so I'm not going to discontinue taking it the Plaquenil.I guess plaquinil is the most benign of all the treatments and it has
improved my quality of life over all. This morning, I feel pretty good so I'm
crossing my fingrs. Seems like I'm ok until I eat and then it is down hill from
there. Maybe I'll just live on coffee, lol. I was like that for the first few days, but seem to be ok now.  I know mine says to take with food or milk. Have you tried to eat first, and then take it a while later?  I can take mine now on an empty stomach--but I'm also taking Zantac for a hiatal hernia....just to keep it calm, so that might be helping? When I first started taking plaquenil I was having horrible side effects from it
which were naseua, daily stomach aches, and diarrhea. Then I figured out if I
took it on a full stomach I didn't have those problems. But I mean a FULL
stomach, not just some crackers or a snack. So now I have it with meals and
I'm fine. Every now and then I don't eat enough with it and I get a surprise
visit from my old friends, the Side Effects.
