Muscle constictures | Arthritis Information

Just wondering if anyone else has been told they have muscle constrictors or nerve entrapment's?  Apparently, for whatever reason, I have multiple muscle constrictors, which is causing some nerve damage.

The physical therapist at the pain clinic is baffled.  He has never seen anyone with this many.  Each visit he picks a body part and works on it and man, is it ever brutal.  The pain is unbelievable.  I can see that he really isn't using very much pressure but its sort of like deep tissue massage or deep tissue trigger point therapy.  He worked on my hips Wednesday afternoon and I started to hyperventilated and almost passed out from the pain.  I have lidoderm patches on today and have started the oxycontin, got a toradol shot yesterday and I am still hurting.  Although I did drop another .5mg of prednsione, down to 3.5 a day now!

I actually have visible bruises and my hips are so swollen, even my fat pants are tight.  I am just trying to get through the day at the office so I can go home and try to lay down. I had so sleep in the recliner last night and laying on my hips was just too painful.

The pt guy has released constrictors in my foot and arm the last two weeks and after a few days when the pain subsides, it actually does seem to be helping but MAN does it hurt.

Just wondering if anyone else has issues like this?  He actually believes that this could be causing some of the neuropathy that showed up on my emg test.
Don't have any experience with that myself; but wanted to say I hope you feel better soon and the theropy that is hurting so bad will pay off in the end and help you. Hang in there.I haven't had constrictors, but I've had contractures in the muscles and tendons of my legs from my bad knees. When you are not getting normal muscle usage, they tighten up and the therapist actually has the break the muscle tissue down. And, man, it does hurt.

Maybe you are holding your body so tense from all the pain you are always in that it's helping to create these. But it seems the PT is helping you. Maybe you can find some way of adding something relaxing to your day. Will they let you listen to CDs at work? I used to listen to the Internet radio stations and that seemed to help be get through the work day as I struggled with the pain all day long which I know you do too.

I'd suggest meditation but since I've never done it and I can't see you possibly working that in when you are juggling doctor's appointments and working, maybe something like that at work or on the drive to work might give your body some relax time.

I think you are making progress though.
Thanks girls.  I am sure that's what I meant Deanna!

Michele I'm hurting just reading about this. Hugs baby girl. I am so sorry.

Do they use heat before massage at PT? I can't bear working on a contracture without heat first. Do they have a whirl pool?

Michele, I too have fibro and muscle constrictions/nerve entrapments.  I don't think mine are as serious or pervasive as yours, but when I last went for PT, the therapist (who specializes with fibro) eventually said it wasn't doing any good...he'd release one, and two days later it would be back again, and this would happen over and over.

I know it hurts when they work it...I used to cry through my PT sessions and all the way home.  He did a lot of work on my chest (costo) and I would always have to ask him to stop at some point because I thought I was going to die.

If you are getting progress and relief, then try to keep it up, just make sure your PT doesn't overdo.  My PT said that exercise would help keep the muscles from constricting, but that I wasn't able to exercise except underwater...and unfortunately every time I do, I end up worse than before.

I've never received any specific explanation for these problems other than fibro and I haven't had an EMG.  I really hope the PT helps you and that you are feeling better soon!

Oh man, I couldn't even imagine them rubbing on my chest as hard as they have been every where else!
