Rheumatoid arthritis gene link proven
The gene PTPN22 has been confirmed as one of the factors that cause rheumatoid arthritis by University of Otago researchers.
"This is only the second gene in the past 25 years to be universally accepted as a gene associated with the susceptibility for arthritis," Department of Biochemistry Senior Research Fellow Dr Tony Merriman says."

This could be tatamount to getting rid of RA and maybe other Arthritises for good or maybe finding better drugs that could possibly help us keep our RA in remission. It sure will be interesting to see how all of this comes into play...

Since my maternal grandfather, my mother and her three sisters all had RA or other inflammatory disease (e.g. Lupus, systemic JRA) and my father had it as well, I suppose there is no doubt where mine came from.
