I RECENTLY SAW AN ORAL SURGEON FOR JAW PAIN.  HE SAID HE THOUGHT IT WAS DEGENERATIVE ARTHRITIS.  I AM TO HAVE AN MRI NEXT WEEK.  ANYONE HAVE THIS?  TREATMENT?  MEDS? I ALSO AM HAVING A BOUT OF GOUT FOR THE FIRST TIME.  ARE THESE POSSIBLY RELATED?

101,

I also saw an Oral Surgeon and had panoramic, MRI, etc done.  I waited 15 years- probably too long. I recently had jaw surgery due to degenerative arthritis (OA & PsA) and disc displacement. I had arthroscopic/arthrocentesis (sp) done where they use a general anesth. and use the scope to clean out scar tissue, bone fragments and inject steroids (to reduce inflammation).  Keeping in mind that surgery was to relieve pain issues it only gave me the relief that a steroid injection did- temporary relief.  I was told that major surgery will have to be done to fix the mechanical issues but I am holding off.  For now I just avoid "chewy" stuff.  Good luck with your MRI.
