I have gastrits(inflamation of the stomach lining).I have to take protonix to keep it under control.I am also allergic to celebrex.I get terrible hives and itch like mad.

What are some of the best meds. for pain and inflamation for someone with these type problems?

Thanks,Sheila

theres all sorts on NSAIDs, you should talk to your RD, The only ones ive been on is Celebrex and Ibuprofen, which is even worse for the tummy. So I dont recommend that one at all. I also take Prilosec to help out for that acidy stuff. Good Luck on finding one for your needs! *hugs*

Hi,

Jealousy is right.  There are a number of NSAIDs that can be used.  Finding the one that works best for you, may be a little harder to find.

Do You have Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome?

I use Prevacid but Prilosec may be helpful too.   It seems to keep my acid reflux in check and also helps with nausea when I have to take my MTX.  I would ask your gastrologist, what he or she thinks would be best for your condition.  Just make sure you stay clear of any aspirin like medications.

Have a great day.

Hi Shelia:

I've also had alot of trouble with GERD and gastritis before. I've tried most of the H2 antagonists, Prevacid, Prilosec, Pepcid. I couldn't handle the side effects or they just didn't do the job. I've been using Nexium. Very low on side effects, but very effective. I also take naproxen quite regularly. Usually 4 tabs 2 times a day. I haven't had any "gut" trouble. But you should talk to your rheumy about it. Keep trying till you find the right combo.

My PCP here suggested using Prilosec because I could not afford the Prevacid (5.00 per month) The Prilosec works very similar to the Prevacid, it has been a lifesaver for me. **note: My PCP here is a wonderful man and I trust his judgement, too bad my RD here could not be as good**

The other thing I have to do is to take mostly injectables for anything, ie. Enbrelor if I must go tot the hospital....yadayada.. The only drugs I am on are Vicodin, xanax and Celexa. I take the vicodin as needed , the xanax as needed ( mostly in the evening unless I need it during the day) and then my Celexa and Prilosec, all in the evening along with a snack.

Other than that I cannot eat spicy foods or grainy foods like whole wheat anything. It is a bland diet but after 2 bleeding ulcers and a pint of blood, I watch what goes into my tummy!

Geesh I grow weary of all the meds and pain and diet  and....and.

Lydia
