Cracked feet | Arthritis Information

Now that summer is about upon us, the old cracked feet are getting worse.
I'm not sure if this is part of RA or just plain old age. I am not in the mood
to spend 30 minutes a day scraping and sanding and grooming them. I just
do not have time. What I would like is a quick fix. Daily lotion does not
help. Does anyone have this problem and any magical cures for this. That
along with the hair loss is wearing on me. If lotion isn't helping could it be the dreaded athelets foot?  Sounds like my feet when I got it.  Doc gave me nystatin cream to put on my feet for a week and it really was gone within a few days.

Hi Lorster, have the cracked foot, for some odd reason it's only on 1 foot.  I use a stone block ( forgot the name of the tool, duh) in the shower.  The cracked area is softer when wet and it's easier to rub off.  Just don't rub too hard or long.  I use it every other day and it takes about 3 minutes.  The areas have almost disappeared and my feet are much softer.  I use vaseline on my feet.  It's the best.  Many models use just plain vaseline as a softner and even to add shine to one's hair.  Also good for soft lips. Anway, that's my beauty tip for the month. So far no hair loss than I can see but it might happen at any time.

I bought a cheapo little pumice stone at the Family Dollar store and was really surprised how well it has held up.( It looks like little plastic feet and has a nail brush on one side...so cute!)

I use it right before I get out of the tub after a good soak! I also either use vasoline or Shea butter on my feet. The shea butter is great cause it locks in the moisture on my heals and leaves no residue on socks, ect.. It has taken about 3 weeks, but my heels are so soft and free of "the cracks". Sure feels great too! They do not seem to hurt as much either.

My sister uses a cream made specifically for the badly cracked heels,  she says it is the best she has ever used. I can find out what it is and let you know.

I used to use Tiger Balm or Vicks Vaporub - after the pumice treatments,
when my feet got cracked and sore each time I was pregnant. Come to think of it, I must get some more and try it on my sore bits.  Haven't used anything topical except my corny bags, so might be worth a shot.

Also remember reading somewhere that a good smearing of Vicks Vaporub on the soles of the feet, then socks on, prevents bed/night-time coughing.
I'll try some mentholatum tonight before bed. I never thought of that. I hate
using petrolium products but my feet have deep grooves in them. I don't
have athelets foot, have been checked for that. and they don't stink. Just so
dang dry. Thanks for the tips. Try rubbing A & D ointment all over them and wear socks to bed. I noticed a big difference with my feet. I try to do it at least once a week.

I haven't tried it yet but I also read about using the Vick's vaporub for cracked feet in the newspaper.

Use the pumice stone, put on a good thick cream and dunk your paws into parafin wax, let them sit while you enjoy a cup of coffee and you'll have smooth feet.

I have heard of the A & D oitment as well, forgot about that one. Ewww the paraffin dip sounds absolutely wonderful!

jode

It is Jode!  Like a dummy, I have the paraffin unit at home and never thought of using it on my feet.  I went for a wonderful spa pedicure and they dipped my feet.  It was like someone smashed a brick on my head "duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh".

So now in between my pedi's, I do it at home.  It feels great and works wonders.

Everyone has their "thing".  For me, I can't stand to wear sandals and have yucky feet.  For others, it's not a biggie.

Lorster!!   Mentholatum!!  Forgot about that.  Haven't heard about it for donkey's years, my Mum always had a wee white jar of it around, used it on just about everything, scratches, cuts, bruises etc, around the nose if we had a cold.  Melted in hot water for an inhalant for a stuffy nose.    She called it our magic ointment. The other rubs I remember now were Rawleighs Camphorated Ointment, and Rawleighs Ready Relief. Oh, and Camphorated Oil for chest rubs.

Other kids wore little camphor bags around their necks and under their clothes in the winter, but we always had a Mentholatum chest rub before bed and before school.

I don't know whether Rawleigh's was a just NZ thing, or was used further afield.

It was only sold door to door, and always an exciting day when the "Rawleigh's Man" came, he had this amazing big leather case, with little drawers and shelves, filled with little bottles and jars of all sorts of pills, potions & remedies.  He always had a special very tiny bottle with sweets in,  that looked like little pills for kids. He always left one for the kids, free of charge, regardless of whether anything was purchased.  Imagine anybody these days putting sweeties (or lollies as we call them in NZ) in pill bottles!!  But - we knew the difference!!

OMG now I'm starting to ramble - this was 55-60 years ago - I had better shut up!!!  And go to bed!!  My kids would laugh and say - "here she goes again".  (I'm turning into my mother).

.mmmm ...... Dr. Williams Pink Pills for Pale and Peaky People (for the girls) and Lanes Emulsion for the boys....malt....yummmmm

Oh and  Worm Syrup - Halibut Oil Capsules, Cod Liver Oil,  and vitamins tabs etc etc - and the sorts of supplements that the Health Shops sell for an arm & a leg!!

G'night....

Kiwilass239203.1696180556LOL, you are hilarious. I cannot imagine a pill salesman at the door. Now
days you have to visit a doctor office to see the pill salesmen, lol.

The health food store has some lotion that has worked for me. I still use it every day.  " JASON"  has several flavors. I buy the  Hemp  .   it seems to work the best for me. It is a little pricey.  I know it doesn't have mineral oil like a lot of other lotions. It says it is 70% organic.  It has an ingredient list that seems as long as my arm.

Good luck

cjames39203.6033796296jason has a nice line called red elements that have some copper in them.
they are nice and make the skin feel good but kind of spendy. I'll look for
some of that at our coop.
