Rehab Hospital for RA | Arthritis Information

Hi, Has anyone here ever had to go to a rehab hospital with RA? My sister has been in the regular hospital for 8 days now and doing much better, thanks for all the prayers, but her docs want her to go to rehab for a couple of weeks. She has developed diabetes and is on insulin shots, from the pred. they tell us, but also to try to strengthen her wasted muscles and do some lung exercises. She's down to 30mgs of pred. now and are hoping to wean her more. They gave her infusion of Remicade yesterday (YEAH) and  her pain is  easing off. She still has  pluersy though not as bad.  Wonder what else they may do with her to help, anybody know?I've heard of people rehabbing in hospital after joint replacements.

I'm glad your sister is feeling a bit better!

I imagine they'll work with her in physical theropy to make sure she'll be able to manage on her own once she's returned to her own home. They'll be able to keep a closer eye on here there and hopefully teach her ways of dealing with her increased limitations.

Hope she's well on her way to recovery.

Thanks so much, I hope the therapy will help. Her muscles have atrophied so bad from lack of use and high pred. levels, she is just so weak, lungs too. Please continue to pray for her. Thanks

It's very common to be sent to rehab after a serious hospital stay. So often it takes a great deal of time to recover and they aren't comfortable sending them home right away; but they are ready to be released from the hospital.

I'll keep her in my prayers. You as well. It's so difficult when our loved ones have been in the hospital and their recovery is so long and hard. Take care of yourself as well.

These are a good place to go especially if she is not strong enough to go
home. Insurance will no longer pay for the acute care but will pay for
extended rehab. This way she will get the skilled care she needs along with
physical therapy and occupational therapy. Hopefully she will feel better
and be home very soon. genesis, how old is she, i'm not sure you have ever
stated this?

Thanks Lorster, she is 67, dx'd may 2006.  Not a very good year for her or the family. The Drs. just told her tonight that she may get to rehab by Fri. if she is strong enough. Her name is Barbara and she is  a wonderful person, mother and sister . Had Remicade transfusion yesterday and pred. has been cut to 20mgs today (yeah), was 60mgs 8 days ago.  Hope  and pray she doesn't flare up on the reduction. Thanks Genesis

I think it is a wonderful idea for someone that has been hit so hard. I certainly would take advantage of it and think she must have some caring doctors that want to make sure she is ok and doesn't get this sick again.
